SUMMARY
Under general direction, this position provides GIS/Computer-Aided Drafting, design support, and other related services for the Traffic Engineering Department and the Public Works Division. This entails the development of design drawings for signals, striping, islands, bus routes, and traffic control plans. This position is responsible for the collection, compilation, and analysis of all traffic volume data including intersection turning movement counts, parking usage, speeds, and sight restrictions. Investigates sight restrictions complaints and sends letters to property owners. Makes manual measurements of streets and alleys and updates maps. Prepares sketches and graphic presentations for public hearings and special projects. Assists the Traffic Operations Technician on traffic engineering study data. Deals directly with the public. Position requires minimal supervision. Knowledge of computer-assisted drafting design.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Draws and designs plans for signals, traffic control, bus routes, as-builts, island removal and information maps. Prepares collision diagrams for studies and Power Point sketches for Traffic Advisory Board agenda items. Sketches work orders, sight restriction diagrams, and driveway permits on personal computer. Updates city maps.
Makes field investigations. Sends sight restriction letters. Follows up to ensure citizen compliance.
Updates existing maps and data bases. Updates existing condition drawings. Draws new maps and diagrams as necessary. Gathers necessary measurement data, collision study data, turning movement counts, speed studies, etc. Responsible for preparation of the year-end accident summary (top accident intersection analysis).
Sight restrictions. Traffic counts. City maps.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent plus two years of college, preferably in math, engineering or science and a minimum of five years of related experience. IMSA Certifications: Work Zone and Traffic Control within 2 years; and Basic Traffic Engineering required. Valid Texas Driver's License required.

- Investigates sight restrictions:

- Assists Traffic Technician or Traffic Engineer by collecting, compiling, and analyzing Traffic Engineering study data:
Updates existing maps and data bases. Updates existing condition drawings. Draws new maps and diagrams as necessary. Gathers necessary measurement data, collision study data, turning movement counts, speed studies, etc. Responsible for preparation of the year-end accident summary (top accident intersection analysis).
- Deals directly with the public concerning:
Sight restrictions. Traffic counts. City maps.
- Prepares studies including but not limited to Top 10 Accident Study and Speed and Parking Studies.
- Develops, reviews and accepts various Traffic Control Plans.
- Takes citizen complaints and requests over the phone dealing sight restrictions, speed, and parking; collects necessary data to handle request; makes recommendations on speed and parking changes to the Traffic Engineer and phones or writes a response to the citizen request.
- Directly supervises Hourly Traffic Counter position
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Ability to create plans and guide implementation of new technology systems and equipment.
- Ability to read and understand and work from blue prints and diagrams.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to use a traffic counter and radar gun.
