This position is vital to the success of theatre productions and events, ensuring high-quality audio experiences for audiences and performers alike. The Audio Technician Specialist will play a key role in the technical team, contributing to the overall excellence of the Cultural Affairs Department events and productions. This role ensures that all technical aspects of audio elements are executed efficiently and to the highest standard. Scheduling obtained from the Theater Technician Specialist. The Audio Technician Specialist role will provide technical support at all Cultural Affairs Department venues. Set up, test, and operate audio equipment, including microphones, speakers, projectors, video monitors, and mixing consoles. Ensure that all equipment is functioning correctly before performances and events. Operate audio systems during rehearsals and performances, adjusting levels and settings as necessary for optimal sound quality. Provide on-site technical support during rehearsals, performances, and events. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving any audio issues that arise. Work closely with the Theater Technician Specialist and other staff to meet production needs. Perform regular maintenance on audio equipment. Keep an inventory of audio equipment and report any repairs or replacements needed to the Theater Technician Specialist. Ensure all equipment is stored properly and securely. Collaborate with lighting, staging, and other technical staff to ensure seamless integration of audio elements into productions. Communicate effectively with directors, designers, and performers to understand and implement their technical requirements. Follow the direction of the Theater Technician Specialist and provide updates on the status of audio operations. Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures for the operation of audio equipment. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. Participate in safety training and drills as required. Maintain accurate records of audio setups, configurations, and maintenance activities. Report any technical issues or concerns to the Theater Technician Specialist in a timely manner. Assist in the development of technical documentation and manuals for audio operations. Typical QualificationsAssociate's degree or certification in Audio Technology, Technical Theatre, or a related field. Experience with audio equipment setup, operation, and maintenance. Strong technical skills and knowledge of sound and visual systems. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Possess a valid Florida driver's license. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Knowledge of rigging and stagecraft. Skilled in audio mixing consoles, video projectors, and related software. Skilled in a theatre or live event environment. Skilled in organizing and attention to detail. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues under pressure. Serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. A strong understanding of ethical behavior is required. The pay range consists of a minimum and maximum salary. Initial appointment is usually made at the minimum salary of the pay range, but a higher salary may be considered for an especially well qualified candidate or to meet unusual needs. Annual merit increases of up to 3% up to the maximum of the pay range are based on fully effective job performance, or above, and are not automatic. Eligible Fire department combat employees receive annual merit increases of up to 4%.Group health insurance is paid for by the City; 100% for full time employees and 50% for eligible dependents.Paid leave includes: Vacation - accrue nine (9) days annually with additional days awarded for longevity; Sick Leave - accrue twelve (12) days annually; Holidays - thirteen (13) days off; Personal Days - two personal days after six months of service.Pension plan: General Employees' Retirement System participation is required for all eligible employees. Each employee contributes a tax deferred deduction of 10% of their salary to the plan and the City contributes a like amount. The defined benefit pension plan is based on the average of the last three base salary years times 3% times years of service. If an employee leaves the employ of the City prior to seven (7) year vesting or retirement, their contribution, with interest, is refundable.
