Sacred Heart Parish in Bowie Maryland is hiring a Communication Coordinator.This is a part time position and will report to the Pastor.
The communications coordinator is responsible for assisting the Pastor in his outreach and communication with the parish and local community. The coordinator will work with the Pastor and other parish staff to maintain, create and implement a cohesive internal as well as external communication plan.
Sacred Heart is a vibrant parish community in Bowie, Maryland. We have a diverse congregation, and our communications needs require an all the above approach so as to reach the widest possible audience in the parish. This is a non-exempt, part-time position requiring 10 hours per week. It is a hybrid position with the option for regular off-site work, though it does include some hours of on-site work and meetings in the Sacred Heart parish office.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Prepare, edit, and submit the weekly Bulletin after the pastor's review and submission to the publisher.Responsible for the Website: maintenance and regular updates, creating pages and forms, along with regular updates as needed in support of other parish staff members.Responsible for Flocknote communications in coordination with office staff: weekly emails to the parish, special emails or texts as neededManage the Flocknote system and database so that parishioner's contact information is up-to-date.Assist and teach parish staff and volunteers how to utilize parish technology (i.e. Flocknote or website).Event registration or sign ups as needed (in support of other parish staff).Maintain parish social media accounts, photo database, and outreach sources (or coordinate volunteers).Prepare flyers and publicity materials for parish events and in support of parish staff and volunteers (or coordinate volunteers).Maintain information boards throughout the parish campus.Communicate regularly with key parish staff and ministry leaders to assist them with promoting their ministry or communicating with their groups.Create and maintain in coordination with the Business Manager, the public facing calendars of parish events and liturgies.Other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
The coordinator must be a practicing Roman Catholic who is faithful to the magisterium of the Church.Possess an understanding of the Catholic Church and its mission.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and adaptivity in communication style.Ability to maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations, able to engage others in a warm, friendly, and respectful manner.Professional poise and ability to recognize situations for exercising discretion and confidentiality.Excellent at working independently and in a self-directed environment, outstanding in anticipating and responding to potential challenges.Strong organizational skills, including the ability to develop systems and procedures.Collaborative working style for engaging parish clergy and other staff membersStrong computer skills, especially utilizing Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred, especially preferred is a degree in marketing, communications, or a ministry field.Previous work in communications or marketing fields, or other comparable church ministry positions is strongly preferred.Must possess a desire for a deeper understanding of communication skills by sharpening personal skills and knowledge through webinars, workshops, and in-person training seminars.Ability to learn new software such as eCatholic, Flocknote, Parishsoft, Canva, Signup GeniusFamiliarity with major social media platforms is preferred.
