Hands-on design of parts and assemblies for trace chemical detection systems.
Create technical detail drawings for custom machined, sheet metal, and molded parts.
Select off-the-shelf purchased components to be used in designs, and create part specifications for these components.
Create assembly drawings to be used in manufacturing of final products.
Generate Bills of Materials for use in procurement and production.
Release new documentation and revise existing documentation through electronic change control processes such as ECOs.
Manage the procurement of prototype R&D parts by working with external suppliers to obtain quotes, place orders, and answer vendor questions.
Assemble parts to create prototype assemblies and systems, perform testing, and evaluate the need for design changes.
Facilitate modification of prototype parts as necessary within project schedule by reworking parts in machine shop or sending parts out to be reworked.
Qualifications:
5+ years’ experience in design, documentation, and manufacturing of mechanical parts and assemblies.
CAD user with Solidworks experience.
Knowledge of drafting standards and accepted practices for communicating design requirements to machine shops on technical detail drawings.
Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), with a strong understanding of machining, and knowledge of other manufacturing processes.
Strong mechanical aptitude, with a hands-on approach to design, prototyping, and testing.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Organized, with the ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously.
Able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical team members.
Able to effectively work with and manage external machine shops and other suppliers.
Desired:
Understanding of ion mobility spectrometry and the unique design requirements associated with trace detection.
Experience designing tools and fixtures for production, and the ability to work with manufacturing personnel to improve their processes.
