This role functions as a strategic communication advisor and lead for areas critical to the People Organization, including Total Rewards & Wellbeing (inclusive of benefits, compensation, savings & retirement benefits, employee wellbeing, etc.), Talent Enablement, and Learning & Development. This person scopes work and facilitates major enterprise or department-wide communication efforts in support of those areas. The successful candidate will have a track record of leveraging deep subject matter expertise to deliver impactful and effective employee messaging.
A key element of this role is to provide strategic direction and alignment among People Organization leadership and communicate key programming across different audiences: all employees (taking global considerations into account, including our front-line employee population), as well as those in the People Organization, COO Organization, and company leadership.
Primary responsibility for supporting Total Rewards & Wellbeing, Talent Enablement, and Learning & Development. This includes leading communication planning and execution for signature HR efforts, including Open Enrollment, Annual Compensation Review processes, and Performance Management.
Job Responsibilities
Advise and Support HR Leadership
(20%)
Advise and align leaders within these areas on communication approaches and messaging strategy.
Support leaders in message development with their teams and across Assurant.
Strategic Planning & Execution
(60%)
Leverage deep subject matter expertise to deliver impactful and effective employee messaging, with a focus on simplifying the complex.
Define proactive communication objectives and plans associated with each area and program.
Create integrated audience and outcome-based communication strategies using all company channels (Intranet, Microsoft Teams, Viva Engage, Town Halls, Email, Digital Screens, etc.).
Navigate and plan for information that is often uncertain or nuanced.
Measure effectiveness and progress toward achieving communication objectives.
Use our communication support model to guide recommendations for communication planning and development.
Partnership with internal stakeholders and external vendors
(15%)
Develop messaging and plans that drive alignment within and across the three areas within the People Organization and across the COO Function and the Enterprise.
Partner with key vendors to ensure communications being delivered to employees are clear, understandable, and aligned to The Assurant Way.
Contribute to Key Functional / Corporate Communications Efforts
(5%)
Contribute/Lead collaborative efforts across the Functional and/or Corporate Communications team as needed.
Qualifications
Experience
10+ years communications experience developing and implementing compelling global internal communications strategies and initiatives for large organizations.
5+ years leading HR enterprise-level communications initiatives.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience with Microsoft Suite of tools, including SharePoint, Teams, and Viva Engage.
Demonstrated expertise and strategic oversight to work across multiple HR-focused workstreams, including Benefits, Compensation, Performance Review Cycles, Learning Programs, Launch of new HR tools and more.
Ability to manage signature HR communication initiatives such as Open Enrollment, Annual Compensation Review processes, Performance Management, etc.
Outstanding and clear written and verbal communicator that can tailor messages to the right audiences.
Ability to assess and interpret facts and trends to develop and synthesize key messages into written materials.
Ability to clearly communicate complex information in ways that inform, persuade and engage target audiences, including excellent writing, editing and proofreading skill.
Ability to diagnose situations and make recommendations for how communication can solve a challenge or advance a strategic initiative.
Ability to think and plan in the context of broader company priorities and direction.
Relationship-driven approach to understand client needs and bring forth communication advice and plans based on those needs/challenges.
Ability to diagnose and get to the root of an issue or situation.
Preferred Skills
Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing or related field.
5+ years leading and developing diverse winning teams.
Experience partnering with Social Media team to make strategic decisions about how to best deploy internal messaging externally, where appropriate.
Ability to leverage customer stories/wins, product/service innovation and thought leadership to grow brand reputation and support business growth.
