We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Content Squad, a dynamic team focused on enhancing Smule’s core singing experience, improving the quality of our community-uploaded songbook, and driving innovation in Styles—our music-aware audio/video effects that help create magical, memorable performances. This is a leadership role where you will oversee and guide a talented team of mobile, server-side, and QA engineers in shaping the next generation of Smule’s content features.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a diverse team of mobile, server-side, and QA engineers, fostering a collaborative, results-oriented culture.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align technical efforts with product goals.
• Drive end-to-end project planning, ensuring on-time and high-quality deliverables.
• Identify and implement process improvements to optimize the team’s productivity, code quality, and development lifecycle.
• Work hands-on as needed to guide the team in architectural decisions, technical troubleshooting, and project scoping.
• Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging the team to explore creative solutions to enhance Smule’s content ecosystem.
• Oversee the development and implementation of new audio and video effects, driving the creative expression possibilities for users.
• Monitor and report on project progress, identify risks, and work proactively to resolve any challenges that arise.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an engineering management role.
• Proven track record of managing and scaling cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of mobile application development (iOS and/or Android) and server-side engineering.
• Familiarity with audio/video processing and real-time effects development is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience in Agile development processes, with a focus on iterative development, continuous integration, and delivery.
• A passion for music, creativity, and fostering community engagement through technology.

Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are located in San Francisco, CA, and Salt Lake City, UT. We love seeing each other in person, so be prepared to travel for occasional in-person meetings (we cover travel costs, of course!).
