This federally-funded program has a goal of becoming a global leader in biomanufacturing and precision fermentation over the next decade. The economic development mission of the Hub is an exciting opportunity to engage with partners across the Central Illinois region and the state.

iFAB is led by the Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory (IBRL) in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. IBRL serves as the home for the Office of Regional Innovation for iFAB and the goals of both organizations will be aligned.

We are seeking a dynamic addition to the iFAB team with responsibilities in communicating iFAB and IBRL's mission and successes. The Communications Manager will be responsible for creating and executing strategic communications to support the advancement of the Illinois Fermentation and Agriculture Biomanufacturing (iFAB) and Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory (IBRL).

Strategic Communications and Media Relations (40%):

• Develop and implement communications strategies to support iFAB and IBRL's strategic goals, including crafting news releases, media advisories, feature stories, remarks, etc.

• Serve as the communications liaison, working alongside campus communicators, iFAB members, government officials, and other stakeholders.

• Manage media relations, serving as the primary point of contact for media requests related to iFAB and IBRL.

• Provide communications support for events, including handling on-site press relations.

Digital Content and Social Media Management (40%):

• Manage and create content for iFAB and IBRL websites and social media accounts, ensuring regular updates and alignment with strategic goals.

• Oversee internal communications, including weekly internal e-newsletters for iFAB members and external monthly newsletters for stakeholders.

• Track and analyze communication metrics to assess engagement and adjust strategies as needed.

Additional Duties (20%):

• Provide photography support, including capturing high-quality imagery at events and securing visually compelling photos for use in news releases, social media, and other communications materials.

• Stay informed of trends and developments in communications to continually enhance practices for iFAB and IBRL.

• Maintain positive relationships and ensure all communications reflect the values and goals of the university and its stakeholders.

• Ensure all communications are consistent with campus and college brand standards.

• Other duties to support the organization's mission and needs.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
Experience:
  • Three (3) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication strategies.
  • Experience writing and editing news releases, feature stories, speeches, and/or digital content for websites and/or social media.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strategic Communications and Media Relations: Proven ability to develop and implement communications strategies that align with organizational goals, build positive media relationships, and manage press events and media requests.

Writing, Editing, and Content Creation: Exceptional skills in writing and editing for various platforms, such as news releases, feature stories, speeches, and digital content for websites and social media.

Digital Content and Brand Management: Proficiency in managing websites and social media, ensuring consistency with brand standards while optimizing content based on performance metrics.

Project and Stakeholder Management: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and collaborate effectively with many stakeholders including leadership, faculty, industry partners, and external communicators.

Adaptability and Attention to Detail: Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, with meticulous attention to detail in all communications efforts.

Travel Requirements: Frequent in-state travel; occasional domestic overnight travel.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $65,000-$72,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
