JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Audio is to manage all aspects of our audio department including mixing live audio and assisting with audio needs for our clients’ live events and installations. Job duties will focus the audio needs of our live events and installations but also include supporting the Access Audio team to help continue to grow the organization and provide excellent service to our clients. The Director of Audio will report to our Director of Live Events.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in improving and implementing an organized system for handling day-to-day tasks and operations within the rental shop. Assist in prioritizing and delegating the daily workflow to maximize productivity
  • Mix live audio for a variety of events. Events will range from single microphone

speaking events to multi-band festival-style events.

  • Maintain all audio equipment and assume the role of head (A1) audio technician
  • Managing independent contractors and volunteers
  • Collaborating with Access Audio leadership team on audio equipment purchase

recommendations and long term planning

  • Overall AV equipment set-up operations, event production operations and

maintenance support

  • Provide FOH engineering expertise—including operating professional sound

equipment to produce superior sound quality in a variety of event venues and sizes

  • Placement of additional speakers, amps, and microphones
  • Operate digital audio consoles providing level control, echo cancellation and multiple

feeds

  • Customize the sound reinforcement configuration for a variety of venue layouts and

client arrangements

  • Provide audio training for customers and independent contractors
  • Responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all audio gear
  • Provide assistance in event AV set-up and operations in accordance with facility SOPs

and client requirements—including the use of advanced AV and lighting equipment such

as robotic cameras, production switchers, webcasting encoders and projectors/laptop

display equipment

  • Provide basic troubleshooting of equipment and rack-mounted systems to identify the

source of problems, and provide immediate repair or replacement to restore operations

  • Work with the Director of Live Events to ensure overall inventory control
  • Assist with basic facility and vehicle maintenance and repairs, including housekeeping in the warehouse
  • Project a positive image for the company at all times and build relationships with service providers, vendors, contractors, and customers
  • Find ways to improve client satisfaction both internally and externally

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have experience mixing in a wide variety of event venues
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and tear down all audio equipment for an event
  • Working knowledge of how music fits together and ability to create consistently good mixes
  • Experience with digital consoles and flying line arrays
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adjust (if necessary) installed audio DSPs in set spaces
  • Ability to pay attention, adapt to changes, and function well in a live production setting
  • Working knowledge of professional AV and VTC technologies
  • Must have an excellent attitude and be capable of performing responsibilities politely and

professionally

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years recent experience as an A1 Front of House Audio Engineer
  • Knowledge of and passion for the mission of the organization
  • Commitment to “The Hills We Die On”
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. The ability to drive a non-CDL 24’ box truck is required
  • Ability to drive and operate a fork truck
  • Ability to work weekdays and weekends—including some nights
  • Ability to work in difficult weather conditions such as heat, cold and rain
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs or ladders
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to pass a basic background check

COMPENSATION AND HOURS:

  • This is a full-time salaried position and will include both shop and show work. Hours will vary, with at least four days of shop work per week. Pay commensurate with skills and experience.
