Overview Dey Street Books is currently seeking a Senior Editor to acquire high profile nonfiction manuscripts and proposals for the imprint. Dey Street Books is built on the idea that by publishing celebrated and diverse creatives with precision and innovation, we will deliver singular and successful publications. Time and time again readers come to our books for content that educates, inspires and entertains. Launched in 2014, we are the industry leaders in media driven nonfiction publishing in the categories of memoir, music, humor, and cultural criticism. Every year, we craft a small, curated list of 25-30 titles, all written by leaders in their fields. In our ten-year history, we have published over 75 New York Times bestsellers, by such authors as Amy Poehler, RuPaul, Dave Grohl, Rob Sheffield, Tom Selleck, Kim Gordon, Neil Strauss, Paris Hilton, Benny Blanco, Darius Rucker, Ann Powers, Alan Cumming and many more. This position reports to the SVP, Publisher. This position is based out of NYC on a hybrid schedule. Responsibilities Solicits, acquires, evaluates and develops high profile manuscripts and proposals for a nonfiction-focused list. Crafts pitches and offers in an entrepreneurial fashion based on home-grown ideas. Contributes to and participates in short and long term development and growth of the publishing program. Manages and coordinates editorial production and publication schedules, sometimes on compressed schedules. Oversees fact sheet, jacket and catalog copy; reviews marketing and publicity materials. Presents titles and list positioning both in and out of house. Conducts and analyzes sales research, with a deep understanding of P&Ls, and social media analytics. Develops and maintains strong and extensive author, agent, publicist, and manager relationships. Qualifications Minimum 5-6 years of relevant editorial experience. Established agency contacts. Excellent negotiation skills. Strong, succinct presentation skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and set priorities under pressure. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Deep understanding of cultural trends and social media analytics, engagement and platforms. Proficient knowledge of MS Office.
