Managing Editor, Content Job Summary:
Sparks Group is looking for a Managing Editor, Content to join a mission-driven, nonpartisan non-profit in Washington, DC. We’re looking for an experienced, collaborative and creative editor. Someone who will oversee the production of accessible, general interest articles that explain various aspects of the company’s mission to the general public via the company’s website and other outlets. The Managing Editor’s primary responsibility will be to edit articles, scripts and messaging with an eye toward accessibility, accuracy and nonpartisanship and ensure there is uniformity of “voice”. The Managing Editor, Content must be able to think digitally, having an innate digital perspective, in terms of how content is developed and produced.
Managing Editor, Content Responsibilities:
- Edit articles, scripts and messaging with eye toward accessibility, accuracy and nonpartisanship and ensuring there is uniformity of “voice”.
- Work with the Digital Team to help establish the company’s voice.
- Produce weekly articles for the website and social media.
- Oversee the creation of messaging for events.
- Think and work strategically to propose article ideas, produce briefs on those ideas and work with Digital team (and specifically the Digital Director) to ensure articles resonate with digital audience.
- Provide strong editing skills, including line editing, and excellent attention to detail.
- Assign, edit and produce articles, working with writers and fellows/experts.
- Send articles for review to leadership team and respond to feedback.
- Working collaboratively across teams to oversee occasional special projects, such as publishing books, reimagining newsletters, updating guides for the public, etc.
- Track the status of articles in the pipeline and communicate that regularly with the Digital Director.
- Collaborate with the Digital Team on the weekly newsletter, with an eye to growing the audience.
- Oversee messaging for various events, donor mailings and other communications.
- Oversee messaging and production of scripts for events.
- Work collaboratively among all the teams to address and meet content needs.
- Manage Content Writer(s) and Copy Editor(s) to ensure their work reaches and resonates with a growing audience while giving them opportunities to grow.
Managing Editor, Content Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience as a writer and editor of content for a digital-forward organization.
- Experience producing content for a digital audience for a news outlet or a nonprofit organization.
- Ability to translate sometimes complex ideas into accessible, general interest articles that are optimized for presentation on the web.
- Ability to produce engaging, accurate, thorough nonpartisan content that resonates with a mostly digital audience.
- At least 4 years of experience managing people.
- Demonstrated success in leading a team and mentoring staff.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects on sometimes tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Proven track record that demonstrates strong editing skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Fluency in the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to pay careful attention to bias-free and nonpartisan content.
- A team player who is highly organized.

This job is Fully Remote.
Pay Range: Salary $123,000.00 to $128,000.00
