Job Summary

SMSI is hiring an Emergency Communication Systems Electrical Sound/Audio Engineer in Greenville, South Carolina. The purpose of this position is to provide the essential technical knowledge, leadership, and administrative processes as described below. This sound engineering position will require the design and analyses of sound systems for rooms, large auditory area, emergency response rooms and other facility intercommunication. This position has execution and oversight responsibilities to produce standard sound/audio calculation documents based on modeling, speech transmission index (STI) calculations, speaker data, STI distribution and heat maps utilizing Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers (EASE) software. This position requires travel, with mobility of greater than 25% to client sites in Aiken, SC (Savannah River Site), and Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment, and systems, and solve technical problems of advanced complexity.
  • Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients.
  • Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures.
  • Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines.
  • Develop and review estimates, schedules, and progress reports including effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting.
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittals.
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes.


Required Skills
  • A minimum of 5 to ten (10) years of practical related audio engineering practice.
  • Some knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes, and standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards related to sound systems industrial facilities.
  • Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes, and guidelines.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include proficiency in the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet, and electronic presentation applications.
  • The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • The ability to obtain and obtain and maintain a Q clearance is required.
  • This position requires travel, with mobility of greater than 25% to client sites in South Carolina (Savannah River Site). Occasionally, trips to client office in Houston may also be required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience with audio STI analysis using the EASE software application.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • NICET Level II (or higher) certification in an applicable subfield a plus.
  • Proficiency with development of control-level schedules and progress reports.
  • Practical audio industrial design and field experience.
  • CAD experience in 2D/3D MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Revit a plus.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Audio Engineering (or other qualifying engineering degrees) and minimum ten (10) years of practical related audio engineering practice.
