A Vital Role in Advocacy and Brand BuildingAs the Strategic Communications Manager, you’ll lead and execute the organization’s communication strategy, developing powerful messages and campaigns that connect with communities and build our brand. This role is ideal for someone who knows how to bring policy to life through clear, engaging narratives and is eager to elevate Good Energy Collective’s voice across multiple platforms.As a research organization and think tank, clearly communicating our perspective is core to GEC’s impact strategy. Communication strategy is not an afterthought. The Strategic Communications Manager creates internal touchpoints with technical teams to ensure that GEC’s perspective is intentionally curated and manages a strategic communications plan to translate that perspective into a coherent public point of view.Reporting initially to the Executive Director and transitioning to the Director of External Affairs (mid-year),

you’ll collaborate closely with our policy and operations teams to ensure our messaging resonates with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including policymakers, partners, and the public. This role will also include managing one direct report, a Creative Strategist.What You’ll Do:

Your Impact and InfluenceStrategic Planning:

As part of GEC-wide perennial strategic planning processes, lead GEC’s communication strategic plan, incremental updates to the plan, plan monitoring, and related process development.Process Development:

Work with GEC leadership to create and implement cross-departmental processes that ensure workflow touch points for the communications team throughout technical work streams.Monitoring:

Maintain planning and tracking processes to ensure all public-facing GEC communications align with communications plans.Analyze & Refine:

Monitor performance metrics across communication channels to inform content strategy and improve engagement.Innovate:

Stay updated on communications and policy trends to drive innovation in our messaging approach and expand our impact.Editorial SupervisionEstablish Editorial Standards:

Develop editorial standards for all categories of GEC outputs. Develop and train staff on procedures for integrating editorial standard intent throughout content development processes.Manage Publication Queues:

Manage feedback processes to ensure strategic fit and voice for all GEC outputs throughout content development life cycles. Manage release process to ensure consistent and maximal impact across GEC’s work.Co-lead “Marquee” Products:

Co-develop all marquee GEC products with product owners, working hand-in-glove to maximize impact.Content Development & Brand PositioningCraft Compelling Content:

Lead content creation across digital platforms, newsletters, press releases, and public statements that articulate Good Energy Collective’s mission and impact.Shape Our Voice:

Develop messaging that positions Good Energy Collective as a leading voice in clean energy advocacy, creating materials tailored to resonate with diverse audiences.Partnerships and Networks:

Establish and maintain partnerships that serve to amplify GEC’s voice and drive impact.Campaign Development:

Design and manage strategic communication campaigns to drive awareness, support advocacy efforts, and advance our organizational goals.Logistics:

Manage relationships with external vendors related to communications, public relations, and publicity.Media Relations & Stakeholder EngagementBuild Media Connections:

Cultivate relationships with journalists and manage press outreach to expand Good Energy Collective’s media presence and amplify key messages.Strengthen Stakeholder Communication:

Engage directly with stakeholders to build a consistent and compelling brand narrative that supports organizational goals.Oversee Social Media Strategy:

Lead social media engagement, creating and curating content to increase visibility, engagement, and brand alignment.Who You Are:

Qualifications and SkillsEducational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of work experience with 5+ years in communications, public relations, or media, with a preference for nonprofit or advocacy sector experience.Editorial:

Significant experience providing editorial guidance and developing processes that set clear expectations for the editorial process.Strategy:

Experience with strategic planning processes and familiarity with the basics of the strategy planning process.Process Development and Project Management:

Experience developing routine cross-departmental processes and managing complex projects in line with project management best practices.Technical Skills:

Proficiency in social media management platforms, content creation tools, and CRM software.Creativity & Communication:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to craft impactful narratives that engage and inspire.Commitment:

role, the salary range is

$100,000 - $115,000 , with a midpoint of

$107,500 . Starting offers are set at

95% of the midpoint , or

$102,125 .Our salary bands are intentionally wide to provide ample room for growth without requiring a change in title.
