About the Position

Strategic Capacity Group (SCG) is seeking to hire an experienced instructional designer or learning experience designer to manage and direct SCG’s human capacity building in support of its global programming and in furtherance of the organization’s strategic capacity building mission. This position will report to the Director of Knowledge Management, coordinate with the Director of Programs, and provide direction on instructional design models, adult learning theories, training needs analysis, training effectiveness metrics, and data analysis. Working cross functionally with program staff across the globe, the Senior Instructional Designer will require exceptional planning and coordination/integration skills to manage instructional design projects from inception to completion. This position will be responsible for communicating and collaborating with officials at the U.S. Department of State, law enforcement/corrections institutions at the state level, and international counterparts. The Senior Instructional Designer will assess capacity building needs, monitor delivery, assess effectiveness, and evaluate outcomes and impact, which may require occasional domestic or international travel, and will contribute to the timely and high-quality delivery of donor, board, and project reporting.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

At least ten years of instructional design experience.

A strong record of experience managing projects from inception to completion. Expertise and competencies in the areas of instructional design and adult learning theory are required, including knowledge of best practices in instructional technologies.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff cross-functionally and manage client and stakeholder relationships, ideally internationally.

Keen senior-level organizational and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.

Evidence of authorship of high-quality training, curricula, training needs assessments, and other written products.

Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and represent the organization internationally.

Willingness to be located at SCG’s McLean, VA offices and travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Hold a master’s degree in in education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, or a related discipline.

Salary commensurate with experience.
