We seek a Technical Designer to develop combat and gameplay features and systems for our new action-packed combat-focused MMO. Our headquarters are located in San Mateo, CA, but this role can be fully remote.

Responsibilities: Utilize the Core editor to develop gameplay and combat elements through LUA scripting. Collaborate with designers, product managers, producers, engineers, and artists to design, implement, and refine combat and gameplay features. Work alongside gameplay teams throughout all development phases to ensure an optimal combat and gameplay experience. Establish and enhance the logic for low-level inputs within the engine using LUA scripting. Demonstrate strong technical proficiency in LUA scripting and a deep understanding of gameplay and combat mechanics. Requirements: 5+ years of experience with LUA scripting. 10+ years of game development experience. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines. Passion for creating and implementing engaging experiences across multiple platforms. Strong creative eye for detail. Deep understanding of what makes games enjoyable and current best practices. Critical thinking, curiosity, resourcefulness, and adaptability in a changing environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey designs and provide creative and technical feedback to diverse stakeholders. Ability to explain technical concepts and collaborate effectively with non-technical team members. Pluses: Deep knowledge of MMORPGs, Lootershooter, and roguelike games. Experience building games on Core, Roblox, or any UGC platforms. Experience using Unreal Engine. Experience programming in C++. Salary range: $88,000/year to $150,000/year. A reasonable estimate of the current US base salary range for this position is the range listed above + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including but not limited to job-related skill sets, experience and training, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
