MORGNER is seeking qualified candidates for the “Design Associate" position in the Maintenance & Operations (M&O)-Space Planning with Los Angeles Unified School District.

Essential Job FunctionsThe Design Associate performs a combination of the following essential job functions:

Determines space needs in terms of anticipated operational requirements, making projections and recommendations for long-range planning or alterations.Participates and supports in the administration of the restacking plan, including reviewing related documents, providing responses to Requests for Clarifications, and preparing drawings for alterations.Creates scope of work and develops architectural design options using CAD and 3D software for presentation and approval.Creates drawings, specifications, and estimates for building alterations and equipment installations based on space requirements and department functions.Provides analysis and conducts field surveys and research about planning and design development.Prepares applications and submits to various agencies for approvals. Prepares design packets and reports with executive staff.Prepare complex architectural drawings, construction details, and alteration improvement and addition to existing structure.Provide code analysis as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Required Experience:A minimum of five (5) years’ full-time paid professional experience working in a large commercial, public agency or school facilities that require the use of at least AutoCAD and one (1) 3D design software e.g. SketchUp.Experience in performing architectural design and coordinating drafting with drafting technicians, conducting surveys and field investigations, and reviewing drawings submitted by vendors and contractors.Ability to analyze architectural problems related to assigned projects and make recommendations for the solution of problems of major office space utilizations, equipment and optimizing space allocations.Ability to interpret codes and possess knowledge of the California Department of Education, American Disability Act and various building codes.

Required Education:10.3 Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering

Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of architectural characteristics of building materialsKnowledge of building codes related to schools, large commercial and governmental construction.Ability to interpret codes for California dept. of Education, ADA and Building & Safety, and Fire codes.Candidates shall be proficient in creating architectural design options, space planning, and construction document details.Concept, schematic, design development, and materials specifications.Construction and building codes related to school, large commercial or government construction.Design principles and aesthetics.Major computer-aided software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp etc.
