Job SummaryUniversity Advancement builds and strengthens relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Writer and Communications Specialist (Public Affairs/Communications Specialist III). The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Writer and Communications Specialist researches, writes, edits, and proofs content for brand journalism and paid media programs, fundraising and stakeholder-engagement projects. Provides support for media relations and consults with media relations staff on story development. Develops relationships to learn the stories of assigned areas of the institution.
Essential QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of related professional or technical experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of public affairs and media relations. Ability to develop themes and oversee content creation. Expert-level networking and interpersonal skills.
A background check must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
Preferred QualificationsMastery of various writing styles and ability to manage multiple projects. Experience in higher education or nonprofit communications.
License/CertificationsA valid California driver's license.
Special Working ConditionsMust be able to work annual commencement ceremonies.
