Contiem is seeking an experienced Content Engineer to support our content management system and assist our clients with their publishing operations. This includes performing content analysis, creating content conversion specifications, developing XML content models and transformations, and providing technical guidance and support for content systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out content analysis and creating content conversion specifications and guidelines for MS Word, XML, InDesign, HTML, and EPUB.
- Configuration, administration and support for the Microsoft Word Styles > DITA4Publishers > InDesign/EPUB/PDF/HTML transformation system.
- Maintain and develop XSL transforms to support new product types and features, ensuring best practice followed for producing and storage of scripts.
- Create XML Schemas and DTDs that reflect model requirements.
- Configure DITA specializations.
- Document schemas and create sample documents.
- Design and document metadata implementation approach.
- Collaborate with customers to develop controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and ontologies.
- Map content models among customer systems to enable integration.
- Write specifications and test criteria for XML content transformations.
- Develop XML content transformations using XSLT, XSL-FO, and the DITA Open Toolkit.
- Mentor junior content engineers in the development of content transformations.
- Liaise/negotiate with content architecture/editorial/creation/best practice teams to ensure content integrity across content sets (correct application of mark-up, style usage conformity, consistency across content sets, and enforcing of best practice).
- Quality assurance of content and validation according to business rules through DTD and Schema tools.
- Provide technical guidance and support for content and content systems.
- Documentation and training for end-users.
- Work with multiple stakeholders to gain plan acceptance and implementation.
- Gather content model requirements by interviewing SMEs and business stakeholders and analyzing content samples.
- U.S. citizenship.
- A BA or BS degree in any related field.
- 8+ years of experience in publishing (acquisitions, editorial, product development, or marketing).
- Knowledgeable of print and electronic product publishing processes.
- Proficient in using XML components content management software such as Oxygen Editor and XMetal.
- Advanced knowledge of XML and related standards like DITA, XSLT/XSLFO.
- Advanced knowledge of XML technologies such as XML editors and XSL software.
- Industry experience working with organizations in the Publishing, Media, Education, Insurance, Pharmaceuticals, Legal, Public Sector domains.
- Requirements analysis and development.
- Content analysis (for XML design).
- Development (DTD/Schema and XSLT).
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
- Computer savvy enough to develop new computer skills as needed.
- Ability to work independently in a team-oriented environment.
- Reliable, tactful, and diplomatic.
- Strong attention to detail, including the ability to accurately follow detailed instructions as well as proofread documents.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle pressure to meet deadlines.
