Position Overview

Echtra Games is looking for a Senior Character Artist to join our growing team on a new premium cross-platform ARPG project. The Character Artist will turn 2D concept art and references into in-game models of creatures and characters, including face, hair, clothing, and other relevant assets. Successful candidates will possess the ability to work both independently and in cooperation with the Art Director, artists, and game designers to support the artistic vision of our project.

Main Responsibilities

  • Sculpt high-resolution 3D creatures, characters, and equipment.
  • Model, UV, and texture organic and hard surface 3D assets for use in real-time game engine.
  • Work with other departments to keep artwork stylistically consistent.
  • Modify and improve existing game assets.
  • Provide feedback to outsource partners and implement assets into Unreal 4.

Requirements

  • A portfolio showcasing a strong understanding of 3D character creation with realistic materials and details.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in games as a Character Modeler with at least one shipped title.
  • Expertise with Maya or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Expertise using ZBrush, Substance Painter and Marvelous Designer.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
  • Excellent knowledge of anatomy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a good eye for character design, including posing, lighting, composition, and color theory.
  • Strong understanding of both PBR texture/material workflows and stylized texture painting techniques.
  • Self-motivated, excellent communication skills, and a great team-player attitude.
  • Able to take direction from the Leads and Supervisors and feedback from the Directors.

Pluses

  • Experience using Substance Designer.
  • Experience with RPG character customization systems.
  • Knowledge of the real-time engine constraints.
  • Ability to model accurate likenesses.
  • Traditional drawing and sculpting skills.
  • Groom hair systems for games.
