About the Job:
The Real Deal's editors oversee content on TheRealDeal.com and in our monthly magazine. Editors work with reporters on a day-to-day basis to perfect the content and copy of news articles and features. The Real Deal looks for editors to be newsroom leaders, capable of assigning stories and guiding journalists through the reporting process. Editors must have excellent editorial judgement, strong communication skills, and flawless grammar.
This role will work closely with the New York team, focusing on reporters on the commercial real estate beat.
This role will focus on The Real Deal's monthly magazine, spearheading the assignment, oversight, and editing of features, profiles and investigations for our flagship product.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and execute the editorial vision for The Real Deal's New York coverage,
ensuring high journalistic standards and relevant, compelling content.
Oversee day-to-day editorial operations, including assigning and editing stories, managing workflows, and ensuring deadlines are met.
Generate story ideas and news leads relevant to New York real estate, investment, policy, and market trends.
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of reporters, editors, and contributors.
Conduct regular team meetings to discuss news strategy, coverage priorities, and special projects.
Provide constructive feedback and coaching to develop team members' skills and performance.
Maintain TRD's editorial voice, style, and standards across all content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and readability.
Collaborate with other editors and departments (such as multimedia, digital, and design) to enhance story presentation and engagement.
Review, edit, and approve final content for publication.
Work closely with digital, marketing, and social media teams to engage and grow The Real Deal's New York audience.
Monitor industry trends, reader feedback, and analytics to adapt editorial strategy based on audience interests and needs.
Identify and guide in-depth investigative projects and long-form stories.
Oversee research and fact-checking processes to maintain accuracy and credibility in complex, high-impact stories.
Job Requirements:
7+ years in a journalism or editorial role, preferably in real estate, finance, or business news.
Proven experience managing editorial teams and leading content strategy.
Strong understanding of New York's real estate market, players, and trends is highly preferred.
$120,000 - $140,000 a year
