Job brief
We are looking for an enthusiastic news/content anchor to join our team and participate in the creative cycle of news and information broadcast.
As a news/content anchor, you will work closely with our VP of News and will be responsible for gathering information, broadcasting newscasts and interviewing guests on current topics that are important to our market.
Ultimately, you should be able to follow current events and present news stories to audiences in an informative, interesting and unbiased way.
Responsibilities
  • Research local community, state, national and international current events
  • Meet with the VP of News, morning show hosts and other important people in the newsroom to be briefed on the day's news
  • Collaborate with the VP of News to choose stories to broadcast considering audience preferences
  • Organize the news to present the most interesting pieces first
  • Present news stories on-air in an unbiased, clear, and concise manner
  • Conduct live interviews with experts, public officials, and individuals involved in news stories
  • Coordinate with news producers to develop news segments and programs
  • Interact with listeners through social media platforms
  • Revise scripts and prepare to deliver them on-air
  • Ensure late-breaking news is added to newscasts or content provided on a daily basis
  • Comply with the moral code of the journalistic profession
  • Keep abreast of news developments and engage in local events, etc.
  • Stay in contact with industry professionals

Requirements and skills
  • Proven work experience as a news anchor
  • Understanding of the newscast process
  • Broad knowledge of local, national and international affairs (e.g. political, economic, legislative and cultural)
  • Comfortable yet professional presence on air
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Available to work on a flexible schedule
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and strict deadlines
  • Social media presence
  • Sound understanding of using social media to promote articles and grow our audience
  • BSc degree in Journalism, BA or BS, communications or relevant field
  • Must live in the Raleigh area and have an understanding of the market from a media perspective
