Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Milwaukee Rep has an excellent opportunity for outgoing and enthusiastic Teaching Artists to join the Education & Engagement Department's faculty. The hiring process is ongoing until all positions are filled. Interested applicants should apply promptly according to the directions below

Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Implement curriculum for after-school and in-school workshops and residencies
  • Develop and/or adapt curriculum as assigned for specific classroom needs
  • Collect student work and anecdotal evidence for assessment and reporting purposes
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Education staff and program partners, including completing and submitting bi-weekly check-ins, timesheets and attending Teaching Artist meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Education
  • Attend student matinees as available

SCHEDULE

A large portion of the work will happen during regular business hours, with additional nights and weekends to accommodate adult acting classes, Saturday Youth Programs, Next Narrative Monologue Competition residencies and other special events. The ideal start date is October 2023. The majority of programming takes place during the September-June school year, with special events and other projects such as the Summer Youth Ensemble taking place over the summer.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
  • Experience and/or training as an artist and/or educator. Additional Teaching Artist Training will be provided by Milwaukee Rep
  • Ideal candidates will have experience in the performing arts with high school, middle school and elementary-aged students
  • Applicant does not need to be an actor or an expert on performance theory, but must demonstrate confidence in and understand how to guide students through an artistic process (spoken word, visual, poetry, etc.)
  • Solid classroom management skills preferred
  • Ability to follow a set curriculum as well as adapt material preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Access to a personal vehicle is helpful for travel to schools ( but not required )
  • Ability to pass a background check in accordance with state and federal laws
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information
  • The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds

Salary Description

$25 to $35 per hour based on experience
