Dance Teaching Artist

We are seeking an excellent candidate for the role of Dance Teaching Artist serving students from 4th grade to 12th grade. Candidates should be compelling educational practitioners who are confident in their capacity to create and deliver an engaging experience to students.The candidate will be responsible for teaching a dynamic group of students at different levels of technique and dance style.

In addition to their teaching assignments, all teaching faculty are expected to contribute to the life of the school community. Schools of the Sacred Heart is committed to an in-person teaching model and faculty and staff must be prepared to adhere to and support our Health and Safety Plan.

The dance instructor will develop monthly lesson plans that introduce students to an artistic discipline to advance the students' artistic growth.The dance instructor will work with students to create an exciting culminating performance to be presented to their peers and families.

The Art Department at Convent & Stuart Hall champions an atmosphere of exploration, expanding students' creative capacity and conceptual thinking strategies in a wide range of art media. Our vision for our after school dance program is to provide quality dance instruction in a welcoming and enjoyable environment while promoting artistic growth, self-confidence and resiliency. Fostering creative body/mindset for a well balanced lifestyle.

Responsiblities:
  • Ability to teach various styles of dance ( at least 2 ) and methodologies from beginner to advanced level (styles consisting of hip-hop, street jazz house dance, modern, step,POM, broadway jazz) Preferred experience as a choreographer for musicals.
  • Develop a curriculum and prepare a lesson plan.
  • Choreograph routines and select music for recitals and performances. Assisting in the development of choreography and performance structure for student recitals, showcases and dance team vocal/dance concert.
  • Attend dance team vocal/dance concert, performance and assigned rehearsals in which your piece is showcased.
  • Provide assistance with dance department-related emails and perform various clerical tasks that support the program.
  • Engage, encourage and motivate students to artistic growth.
  • Provide a welcoming and enjoyable environment.
  • Stay up-to-date with your artistic discipline and implement corrective changes to dance routine and lesson plans


Qualifications

To be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas:
  • A high school diploma or higher education required.
  • Previous teaching experience required, specifically with 4th -12th grade.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Energetic, driven, creative, and dependable.
  • Demonstrates patience and leadership skills.
  • Certifications or licenses in respective art form is a plus
  • A teaching demo video is highly recommended
  • Available to teach a weekday afternoon class during the school year

History of collegiality and collaboration with other teachers and administrators. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning profiles. Innovative, creative, and flexible teaching style. Understanding the developmental needs of students and how they learn best. Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative. Must have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work well with students and adults. Must be a role model and maintain a high level of professionalism.Experience with independent schools is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements include:

Regularly lifting or carrying 1-20 lbs. Regular pushing/pulling/bending/stooping/kneeling. Regularly climbing stairs** Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours. Requires physical presence, work to be performed on campus**
