General Manager (Broadcast Industry)
Our client is seeking a strong General Manager for their radio station cluster in Boston. The General Manager position is a pivotal role in directing the operations and sales strategies of a radio station cluster within this significant market. As a broadcast professional, this individual would be responsible for overseeing various key aspects of station management, including sales, marketing/promotions, programming/operations, technical/engineering, and administration/human resources. The ideal candidate should possess a track record of exceeding financial and budgetary goals, along with a demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and inspire sales talent.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to ensure the radio station's competitiveness and profitability in the market. Drive initiatives that align with overarching business objectives and market trends – through advertising.
Operations Oversight: Manage all operational aspects of the broadcast station cluster, including programming, technical infrastructure, and administrative functions. Ensure seamless day-to-day operations to maintain high-quality broadcast standards.
Sales Management: Lead the sales team to achieve revenue targets through effective audio and digital sales strategies, client relationships, and advertising solutions. Monitor sales performance, identify growth opportunities, and implement corrective measures as necessary.
Marketing and Promotions: Collaborate with team members to create impactful promotional campaigns and branding initiatives and events. Develop partnerships with advertisers and sponsors to maximize revenue streams and market exposure.
Financial Management: Drive financial performance by monitoring budgets, analyzing financial reports, and implementing cost-effective measures. Identify opportunities for revenue optimization and expense reduction to enhance profitability for the broadcast operation.
Talent Management: Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team across various departments. Foster a positive work culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, and professional development.
Compliance and Regulation: Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and industry standards to safeguard the radio cluster’s licenses and reputation. Stay abreast of legal and regulatory changes, implementing necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
Community Engagement: Act as a representative of the station within the local community, fostering relationships with stakeholders, listeners, and community organizations. Participate in community events and initiatives to enhance the station's visibility and impact.
Qualifications:
· Proven experience as a General Manager in the broadcast industry (required), with a strong understanding of broadcast operations and sales dynamics. (TV, Radio)
· Demonstrated track record of achieving and exceeding financial targets and operational goals.
· Exceptional leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams towards success.
· Strong business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to analyze market trends and capitalize on opportunities.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
· In-depth knowledge of FCC regulations and compliance requirements.
· Bachelor's degree, Broadcasting, or a related business field (preferred).
· Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
