The Grant Writer plays an important role within the Corporate & Foundations Relations Team in the Advancement Division to further philanthropy through communicating our critical work in grant applications and reports to corporate, private, and family foundations. The ideal candidate has demonstrated professional expertise in using analytical thinking, compelling storytelling, and strong writing skills for the advancement of organizational goals. This part-time position is ideal for a self-starter comfortable working both independently as well as strategically, creatively, and collaboratively within the Foundation Relations Team.
The Foundation Relations Team submits approximately 200 applications per year. The Grant Writer will be responsible for a share of this total workload as determined by the Senior Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations. The Grant Writer works in concert with the Senior Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations, the Advancement Division, members across the organization, and senior leaders as appropriate, to build and execute comprehensive grant applications and reports, ensuring that GBFB is maximizing and leveraging our partnerships with organizations such as Feeding America, special designated funds, and foundations in Massachusetts.
This part-time, 20 hour a week, role is a hybrid role in accordance with GBFB's Hybrid Work Policy. The work schedule is to be mutually agreed upon between the Senior Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations and the selected candidate. A laptop and GBFB telephone number will be provided.
Role & Responsibilities
Proposal Development
Develop and write compelling grant proposals that effectively communicate our organization's mission, needs, and impact in accordance with organizational style and content guidelines.Ensure that all proposals meet the specific requirements and guidelines set forth by the funders.Collaborate with our staff to gather necessary information and documentation, adapting previously approved content as needed and seeking approval on new content.Submission and Follow-Up
Prepare all required documentation, including required attachment materials, and submit proposals on or ahead of deadline according to funder guidelines.Track and manage proposal submission deadlines.Follow up with funders as needed to ensure the proposals are reviewed and to respond to any additional information requests.Participate in the maintenance of digital grant files and grant tracking documents.
Serve as a member of a three-person Foundation Relations Team, including attending regular team and divisional meetings.

Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.Prior successful grant writing expertise.Strong critical thinking, research, and writing skills.Ability to secure, synthesize, and communicate complex information.Experience meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to honor confidentiality.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), in AdobePro, and in CRM databases such as Salesforce required.Proven ability to handle multiple and varied tasks, as well as to plan, develop, collect, and acquire relevant information across teams to create compelling proposals and accurate reports.Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, to achieve common objectives.Demonstrates the required digital competencies that result in the effective usage of the full range of digital technologies at GBFB.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.Minimum of 3-5 years of grant writing experience in a nonprofit setting.Experience with financial reporting, prospect research, and/or donor relationship management preferred.Physical Demands
