Located in the heart of Newport's historic district, IYRS School of Technology & Trades is a non-profit, post-secondary experiential learning institution. Our 3-acre harbor-front campus houses amazing facilities with traditional and state-of-the-art equipment. Our mission is to empower students through immersive, hands-on innovative learning to realize their full potential.
IYRS offers four certificate programs for people interested in careers in the marine trades and advanced manufacturing. IYRS students are passionate about thinking and working through hands-on learning to develop skills and problem-solving abilities. IYRS was named a Best Maker School by Newsweek Magazine in 2021.
Primary functions and purpose of this position
The Social Media and Marketing Specialist is a pivotal member of the IYRS team, responsible for advancing the school's brand through social media and other marketing channels and supporting the marketing department overall. This role centers on crafting compelling content that resonates with prospective students, donors, and the broader community. Working closely with students, faculty and staff, the Social Media and Marketing Specialist will create content, evaluate content performance, stay up-to-date on trends, and make recommendations for future performance
Requirements
Digital Marketing Content Development & Community Management
Spearhead social media content creation for educational programs, fundraising, workshops, and events including written copy, photos, social graphics, video and reels.Manage social media comments and engage as neededCreate and manage Facebook event postings for key IYRS eventsManage social media advertising boostsCapture and edit video content for use on social media and other digital formatsIncorporate user-generated, partner content and internally sourced content from IYRS internal teamProfessional development to ensure best-in-class performance on social (examples: webinar, conference)Marketing Support
Draft and schedule email marketing campaigns in both Constant Contact and Hubspot, using both static and dynamic listsPR support including list building, press release drafting, distribution, and tracking resultsSupport on video/photo shoots including drafting briefs, being on site for shoots, working with vendors and moving products through finalization, saving of final assets, distribution, and evaluationSupport on design and content creation for fliers, using templatesContent creation, which may include writing blogs, student profiles, Industry Partner profiles, and scholarship recipient biosEffectively manage small graphic design projects with external vendorsSupport Marketing Director in managing the school website, including content updates, page buildouts, job postings, issues troubleshooting and ticket submission/management, form creation, and sharing results of form entries.General awareness of IYRS's pay-per-click ad content and strategy and ability to fill in on vendor calls if needed.Serve as organization lead on select vendor accounts including staying up-to-date on new product features, making recommendations of which new features to utilize and evaluating our subscription level on an annual basis, maintaining relationship with account lead(s)Support on maintenance of enrollment marketing workflows including adjusting dates, opt-in criteria and workflow content on a quarterly basisCreation of slideshows for events as neededUpload events to location online calendars as neededAssist in planning and implementing marketing events throughout the year.Manage the ordering of marketing materials for the organization on a quarterly basis including business cards, nametags, etc.Marketing Strategy, Monitoring and Analysis
Support implementation of a comprehensive annual marketing planTake the lead on development of annual social media marketing strategy including social media content pillars, hashtag strategy and diversification of content across channelsContribute to completion of monthly entries into data dashboard, reviewing results and making recommendations for future adjustments to boost resultsGeneral awareness of IYRS's work with enrollment management vendor and able to fill in on vendor calls if neededWork closely with Admissions, Development, and other stakeholders to create content supporting their objectives.Review and analyze email campaign results, making data-driven adjustments to optimize performance.Attendance in monthly marketing meetingsEducation and Experience Requirements:
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 2 years of experience in content creation, marketing, or communicationsProficiency in Microsoft Office products.General understanding of web data analytics, SEO, and pay-per-click campaign management.Highly organized, adaptable, and able to work independently.Experience with tools such as Google Analytics, Finalsite (or other website platform), Hubspot (or other CRM), Adobe, Canva (or other design program), Constant Contact (or other email marketing platform), Wistia (or other video editing software), and all major social media platforms is desirable.Other Expectations
