Bus Operator Job at Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority in Toledo
Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority, Toledo, OH, US
Job Description
Join Our Team as a Fixed-Line Operator! Now hiring for our January class!
Are you ready to embark on a fulfilling career where you're not just driving a bus, but serving as the frontline connection for our community? At the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA), we're seeking passionate individuals to provide safe and reliable transportation services while delivering exceptional customer service to our passengers.
Duties:
As a Fixed-Line Operator, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safe, timely transportation for passengers, connecting them to work, school, and community events. Your responsibilities will include:
- Safely operating a bus along a specific route assigned to each driver.
- Providing excellent customer service to passengers, assisting them throughout their journey.
- Adhering to strict schedules and arriving punctually at stopping points.
Don't worry if you're not currently a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holder – we provide comprehensive paid training to equip you with the necessary skills for licensing.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years consecutive licensed driving experience.
- Valid vehicle operator’s license with no more than 2 points in the last 3 years.
- Minimum age requirement: 21 years.
We value transparency and want you to know the realities of the role upfront:
- Dynamic Scheduling: Our scheduling system may seem a bit dynamic at first. You might receive your schedule for the next day as late as 4 pm the day prior, and we require open availability within the 4:20am to 11:15pm window every day. Although you will not work every day, daily availability is required.
- But here's the silver lining: as you gain seniority, your schedule will stabilize, and you'll have more control over when you work. Our union agreement ensures that scheduling is based on seniority, meaning the longer you stay with us, the more favorable your schedule becomes. While your shifts may vary initially, you will work 40 hours per week with opportunities for overtime. Your dedication will pay off with increased scheduling stability and a better work-life balance.
- CDL Permit: You must obtain a CDL Permit (with passenger and airbrakes endorsements) before starting the role. Training towards CDL licensing will be provided upon joining.
- Pre-employment screenings: A background check, DOT Drug Screen, and DOT Physical are required before starting in the role.
- Physical Demands: Occasional standing and walking, frequent to continuous driving, sitting, climbing steps, and reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 35lbs.
