United Way of Greater Cleveland is a “Flexible First” organization. “Flexible First” means that we embrace a hybrid model that allows employees to work both remotely and at our existing office. Employees will regularly work at our existing office for approximately 10 to 80 percent of their time each month based on business/operational needs, and the rest of the time they may work from a remote physical location of their choice within a reasonable commuting distance from the office which must be identified to the organization in advance. Human Resources and Hiring Manager will set expectations on the employee’s preferred time in office with consideration to business/operational needs. UWGC has not defined a reasonable distance and expects employees will use judgment in determining this for themselves and understand the implications re: time commitment and cost of daily commute.

Purpose of Position:

The Community Resource Content Specialist is responsible for maintaining the 2-1-1 Community Resource Data connect callers to the organizations that provide the requested services. Researches, organizes, summarizes, and classifies information on government, nonprofit, and select for-profit organizations for entry into the United Way 2-1- Community Resource Database.


Full time hybrid 8:30am - 5pm Monday, Wednesday, & Friday home, Tuesday & Thursday in office.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Essential Job Functions/Key Accountabilities:
  • 2-1-1 Community Resource Content
  • Implement strategies for obtaining research, gather and analyze information about organizations and community services using print literature, the Internet, telephone interviews, site visits and community forums.
  • Responsible for capturing information about an organization (which may be extremely complex), breaking it down conceptually and then reorganizing it into an entry or series of entries that accurately reflect the organization’s structure and services.
  • Prepares descriptions about organizations and services for entry into the database utilizing the proper protocols.
  • Utilizes the AIRS/INFO LINE Taxonomy of Human Services, a national classification system for health and human services, to appropriately index database records.
  • Assists in researching, reviewing, and editing information for specialized printed directories.
  • Develops working relationships with agency staff from government, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, which may include top executive staff, to assist in maintaining awareness of and support for the resource database and to ensure that United Way 2-1-1 is promptly notified of changes to the services or structure of an organization.
  • Follows basic protocols of the field of Information and Referral, as defined by Inform USA. Strives to obtain (and maintain throughout employment) the Community Resource Specialist – Database Curator (CRS - DC) certification.
  • JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Frequent contact with agency directors, program administrators and United Way of Greater Cleveland staff.

Qualifications:

  • Required Education and Experience:
  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1 years of project administration support or other relevant experience
  • Three to five years’ experience in research, social services, library services or a related field where the use of writing and critical thinking are paramount. Additionally, an understanding of the human service delivery system, including the differences between the public and private sectors, how government, nonprofit and for-profit organizations are organized and funded and how these organizations relate to one another is preferred.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and work well with people from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Requires the ability to work independently, including the ability to set priorities and focus on critical activities. Ability to accept close review and editing of work and have a commitment to work in a team environment. Also requires the ability to multi-task, and the flexibility to change focus and priorities in response to foreseen and unforeseen changes in community needs and services.
  • Must be analytical, attentive to detail and able to master A Taxonomy of Human Services. Excellent interviewing, written communication and proofreading skills required. Familiarity with Windows and Internet search engines essential. Experience using Twitter, Facebook or other social media platforms preferred.
  • Must be willing to make occasional day trips to communities throughout Northeast Ohio.
