  • The Program Leader facilitates and leads dynamic camp activities based on their activity focus area.  The Program Leader works cooperatively with the Director, Melwood Recreation Center, Program Director, and Day Camp Manager to run the program aspects of Camp Accomplish.  Each Program Leader will have an activity focus area to include Performing Arts, Creative Arts, Sports and Recreation, Nature, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

    The Performing Arts Leader will plan and facilitate activities that introduce campers to theatre, dance and song. Activities, including acting performances and improvisational games, should encourage imagination and build confidence.

    The Creative Arts Leader will plan and facilitate activities that encourage campers to express themselves. Drawing, painting, sculpting, jewelry-making, photography and more can be used to cultivate skills and harness inspiration.

    The Sports and Recreation Leader will plan and facilitate activities that teach physical skills while encouraging fun, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Confidence and cooperation are developed through the enjoyment of basketball, frisbee golf, street hockey, gaga and so many other games.

    The Nature Leader will plan and facilitate activities that encourage campers to learn from the natural world around them. Exploring plant life, observing animals, discovering insect habitats and more can be used to develop wonder and curiosity.

    The STEM Leader will plan and facilitate activities that build technical skills and inspire a love of learning. Science experiments, designing, building, math games and more can be used to teach critical thinking, problem solving and communication.

Develop and lead activities for the activity focus area that are creative, dynamic, fun and safe for campers of all ages and abilities.

Facilitates the upkeep of assigned activity area, ensuring that all areas are safe and well maintained.

Develop and write lesson plans with clear goals that are clearly tied to the activity focus area and are intentional in purpose..

Works closely with staff to adapt activities so each participant is able to participate.

Works with the Camp Director and Head Counselor to develop new activities and programs that are inclusive and therapeutic for participants of all abilities.

Assist the Camp Director and Head Counselor and other staff in the coordination and facilitation of evening programs, theme days, and special events.

Lives with assigned cabin group and staff in a respectful manner, participating in building a positive and safe camp living environment.

The candidate for this position must be willing to work with children of all ages and abilities, have good communication skills, be a team player, able to problem solve, and work in a fast paced environment.

This seasonal, summer job takes place during the summer months outdoors, where there is potential exposure to excessive heat and humidity, and other environmental influences such as insects, etc.
