Team Elmer's, a 100% employee owned heavy construction company, dynamic, self-starter to document projects and create content for the marketing and communications department. Comprised of four divisions - asphalt, excavation, concrete and crane and rigging, our Traverse City, Michigan-based company proudly employs more than 500 skilled professionals, and operates out of 15 Michigan locations.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Use photographic and video equipment to capture a subject, place, project, story, or event. Understands and adheres to photography/videography guidelines and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with concepts like composition, lighting, and balance.
  • Helps sift through content to identify valuable photos or videos. May stage subjects or areas for capture and may work directly with clients/coworkers.
  • Use digital cameras, along with a variety of equipment such as tripods, filters, and flash attachments.
  • Operate still and video cameras (DSLRs), iphone, go-pro, or related equipment. Direct activities of interviewees.
  • Determine technical requirements of productions or projects.
  • Adjust apertures, shutter speeds, and camera focus based on a combination of factors such as lighting, field depth, subject motion, film type, and film speed.
  • Set up still or video cameras or related equipment. Be able to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 80 lbs. rarely.
  • Manipulate and enhance scanned or digital images to create desired effects, using computers and specialized software (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.).
  • Create computer-generated video, graphics, and/or animation (Cap-Cut, Adobe Effects, Premier, etc.).
  • Transfer photographs to computers for editing, archiving, and electronic transmission.
  • Convert data among multiple digital or analog formats.
  • Determine project goals, locations, and equipment needs by studying assignments and consulting with clients/coworkers.
  • Schedule time according to content priorities.
  • Follow up with sources for timing on projects.
  • Confirm timelines to capture content.
  • Confer with clients/coworkers to determine needs.
  • Gather release forms as needed from contractors. Gather names of individuals on-site and record with meta data or other system.
  • Review sets of photographs to select the best work.
  • Maintain records, documents, or other files.
  • Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products.
  • Determine and complete technical requirements of productions or projects.
  • Take pictures of individuals, crews, and small groups, primarily on various project/work location around the state. Majority of time in Traverse City based on crew count and project profiles.
  • Perform maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment working properly.
  • Write photograph captions and Metatag pictures to maintain searchable database.
  • Obtain copyrights or other legal permissions.
  • Capture Time Lapse Video of various projects around the State and compile.
  • Capture images of various projects and employees across Northern Michigan
  • Film Internal Weekly Updates, as needed, post to private Youtube Channel, Film How-To Videos for Employee training as needed.
  • Utilize and develop soft skills, including interacting with people in a friendly, positive, and supportive way, especially those uncomfortable on camera, those facing deadlines, unscheduled equipment repairs, or those with interrupted schedules.

Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate
  • Working knowledge of Facebook and social media
  • Previous experience working with Marketing and Communication job functions
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Ability to manage work load and prioritize
  • Flexibility to invite observations on content for improvement.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve, handle pressure, multitask while still being flexible.
  • Attention to detail, high level of accuracy and follow through.
  • Ability to make decisions and choices on their own, keeping the best interest of the company in mind and within budget.

Start Date:

  • Position open until filled, start date immediately or as soon as possible

Hours:

  • 40+ hrs. per week (paid overtime at 1.5x). Primarily Monday-Friday, occasional pre planned Saturday or Sunday work. Average of one time per week, capturing content at project sites outside of typical 7am-5pm business hours.

Compensation:

  • This is a paid employment ranging from $25-$28 per hour depending on skill set and experience. Training provided by fellow employees in some areas. Benefits Medical/ Dental/ ESOP/ 401k/ Paid Time Off (PTO)/ Company Chaplain On-Staff
