The Design Manager will be skilled and experienced with overseeing teams on large scale and highly technical construction projects with specific responsibilities managing the critical elements of the design phase. This role ensures effective collaboration and successful outcomes for data center clients, end users, consultants, trade partners, and team members.
Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related fieldMultiple years of experience in construction management and VDC managementKnowledge of data center systemsStrong understanding of industry standards and guidelines related to construction and designEffective project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneouslyEffective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders including clients, user groups, design teams, consultants, trade partners, and team members.Proficient use of Revizto, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office programsEssential Duties and Key Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned to meet business and project needs)
Develop and implement management plans, schedules, and proceduresManage design phase and procurement phase timelines to ensure critical milestone achievementsManage the VDC process3d and 4d modelingDirects, guides, assists, plans and supports the design team, trade partners, and internal team membersProvide quality control review of plans and specificationsLeads teams in such a way to maximize contributions and development of each team memberExhibits strong commitment to customer serviceOversees and provides input regarding all issues that require risk managementSolution-oriented troubleshootingDevelops contingency plans to mitigate potential risks to projectsLead teams in such a way to maximize the contributions of each team memberUnderstands prime contracts and subcontract agreementsNegotiates subcontract modifications with subcontractors to manage riskProvide detailed contractual interpretations to team regarding prime contracts and subcontract agreementsAbility to recognize project issues and timely acquire/coordinate resources to support project teamProvides overall administration and technical directionCoach, monitor and enforce, along with project team, safety standards to maintain safe working environment for all employees and site visitorsHolds team members accountable during all aspects of the projectEnsures project team is performing all tasks efficiently and adjusts when necessaryClearly, concisely and timely documents all changes or deviations from the contract documents including notifying the Owner and design team of potential issuesProficient in technical writingAssist in developing prequalified subcontractor listsEnsures prime and subcontractor contractual requirements are met prior to performing workResponsible to provide technical and procedural construction direction to internal and external shareholdersUnderstand, develop, and maintain schedulesProactively monitor the progress of the scheduleWork with project team to ensure schedule milestones are achievedProactively mitigate foreseen constraints, and assist in implementing plans to maintain or recover schedulesCommunicate unresolved constraints and impacts in a timely manner as well as plans to mitigate impactsManage job closeout process associated with as-built documentationPhysical Requirements:
