Under the supervision of the Library Accounts Supervisor, performs a variety of paraprofessional duties in the Library including customer service and circulation functions. Assists patrons with library accounts, and the use of library resources and equipment in person, and via telephone.

* Provide exemplary customer service to library patrons, in person and via phone. * Create and maintain library customer accounts. * Analyze and resolve customer account issues. * Accept and process payments accurately on library accounts. * Ensure financial activities are in accordance with guidelines. * Balance cash drawer daily at end of shift. * Process and reconcile library materials return bins. * Monitor the condition of returned materials and route to appropriate location. * Sort, shelve and search for library materials using the Dewey Decimal Classification system. * Assist and instruct patrons in using the library's resources, services, computers, printers, copiers, fax, vending, and other equipment and software. * Understands, follows, interprets, and enforces library policies and procedures. * Maintain customer records confidentiality. * Assist and back up other areas as assigned. * Assist with opening and closing procedures. * Participate in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the Library. * Assist the public with directional and procedural inquiries. * Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education:

* High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree or two years of college preferred.

Experience:

* 6 months of customer service experience required. * Library, cashier, data entry, integrated computer system, alpha/numeric system experience preferred.

Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

* Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification system. * Knowledge of basic library principles and practices. * Knowledge of customer service methods and techniques.

Ability to:

* Ability to demonstrate exemplary customer service in person and over the phone. * Ability to effectively resolve customer complaints and concerns. * Ability to communicate effectively with the public in person and by phone, giving and receiving information in a clear and courteous manner. * Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. * Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks. * Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly. * Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type. * Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. * Ability to alphabetize and numerically sequence books and library materials. * Ability to pay attention to detail and be thorough and accurate. * Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to learn and utilize new processes, procedures, software, and equipment.

Skills:

* Skill in operating a variety of office equipment and software include computers, photocopiers, scanners, Microsoft Office, internet, email, and other equipment and software typically used in library services. * Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. * Skilled in attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferences

* Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.

* Must submit to and pass a criminal background and pre-employment drug test, * Must be available to workdays, evenings, and/or weekends as required.
