A new, global-facing publication to be based at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability aims to become a go-to platform for ideas from sustainability change-agents a platform that broadens the sustainability conversation, helping to clarify actionable approaches for impact. The publication seeks a full-time managing editor to work with the editor-in-chief to shape the publication. This is an opportunity to help create and help run a global publication featuring frontier ideas, diverse voices, innovative analysis, and illuminating debate about one of the most crucial and complex issues of our time a publication based at Stanford, which has a new sustainability school that is plowing fresh intellectual ground. Your Responsibilities will include: Working with the editor-in-chief as part of the senior management team to shape the publication. Managing, on a daily basis, the editorial process, from commissioning of pieces, to editing, design, production, and publication. Managing staff, including senior editors and a multimedia director. Managing relationships with outside authors and other contributors. Ensuring deadlines are met. Working with the editor-in-chief on organizational strategy and on hiring plans. Coordinating management of the publications electronic systems and platforms. To be successful in this position, you will need: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in English, communications, or journalism, and eight years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Extensive knowledge and skill in all editorial processes including story development, quality control, design, and collaboration. Ability to provide recommendations for long-range strategies. Ability to synthesize complex material from multiple sources to identify and resolve key editorial and publication issues. Ability to work effectively and provide leadership to a team under stringent deadline requirements. Ability to work effectively with senior organizational leaders, scientists, and faculty. Demonstrated project-management skills and ability to plan, budget, and track resources. Demonstrated ability to apply discretion and judgment in evaluating implications of publication and information release to internal and external audiences. In addition, preferred qualifications include: Experience launching and managing a global-facing publication. Subject-matter expertise with sustainability. The expected pay range for this position is $144,288 to $168,181 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
