The University of Virginia School of Law seeks to hire a Visual Designer or Senior Visual Designer to assist with producing UVA Lawyer magazine, admissions marketing materials, event promotion materials, and other print and digital marketing. This position reports to the Chief Communications Officer. The ideal candidate is an excellent designer with strong organizational and collaboration skills as well as the ability to meet or exceed deadlines.Consistently ranked among the nation's top law schools, the Law School is a world-renowned training ground for distinguished lawyers and public servants, instilling in them a commitment to leadership, integrity and community service. The school's Communications Office is responsible for promoting and recognizing the work of faculty, students, alumni and employees, and for educating the public generally about the Law School.Responsibilities of the Visual Designer role include:Designs content that promotes UVA Law to a broad audience in digital and print formats.
Plays a key role in designing/producing UVA Lawyer magazine and admissions print materials.
Designs other products, such as event promotion materials, social media or video graphics.
Helps manage assets, particularly photos, for various print and digital products.
Works with colleagues to realize a design vision in step with UVA's brand that coordinates well with the text and goals of the project.
In addition to the above, Senior Visual Designer responsibilities include:Takes the lead role in designing UVA Lawyer magazine and admissions print materials.
Recommends and implements design improvements across materials the office produces.
Suggests and implements improvements to office processes connected to brochure production.
Works with a higher level of independence.
Education and Professional Experience:Minimum requirements for the Visual Designer role:Bachelor's degree, plus at least three years of related experience.
Expertise with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
Minimum requirements for the Senior Visual Designer role:Bachelor's degree, plus at least five years of related experience.
Expertise with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
Experience using Adobe Illustrator.
Experience with the following is helpful for either role:Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
Drupal or other web-editing tools.
Digital photography.
This is a full-time University Staff Managerial and Professional position with benefits. This position requires most work to be performed in person at the Law School, with the opportunity to perform a limited amount of work remotely in accordance with Law School policy.The Law School is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, a college town setting with natural beauty and significant historical relevance in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
