officeScopeThe Mechanical Project Designer 1 will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. They will be responsible for working closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Primary responsibilities will include engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This position will be expected to work within the project's monetary budget, train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standardsInteract with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively. Build and maintain client relationships through professional communicationWork as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects. Lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives. Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended.Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions. Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutionsProvide in-process design reviews of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection system design, calculations, and specifications. Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirementsStay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering. Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEGPrioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work. Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systemsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goalsIdentify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project ManagerOversee projects through bidding and construction administration phaseRequired Skills/AbilitiesProficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systemsAbility to train and mentor less experienced staffProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight staysEducation and ExperienceBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent requiredEngineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industryORAssociates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industryThis position is not eligible for sponsorshipPhysical RequirementsRegularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 poundsOccasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pullWill have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noisesSalary Range
$95,000 - $119,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
