Ohio Prisoners Justice in Cincinnati, OH is looking for one communication coordinator consultant to join our strong team. We are located at 1219 Purcell Ave. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, ambitious, and hard-working.
About OPJL: Opportunities Peoples Justice Leaders is an organization that focuses on the human and civil rights of those incarcerated in the United States. OPJL takes pride in helping the incarcerated and their families. During the incarceration process, loved ones are often left without resources to navigate through the prison system. OPJL knows how unclear processes are and is available to make navigating all the steps easier.
About the Position: The communication coordinator consultant will have multiple responsibilities, but two of the main functions are to be ambitious and dedicated. This position will be paid as a 1099 employee, which means the person is hired as a consultant. In addition, a cell phone and internet stipend will be provided.
Responsibilities:
● Write a variety of content to support communications and marketing efforts, including newsletters, website copy, brochures, and press releases.
●Assist communications team in developing and implementing a communications strategy designed to further company objectives.
● Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies.
● Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices.
● Respond to media inquiries and maintain relationships with journalists and other members of the press.
● Plan press conferences and other promotional events to help keep the organization top of mind,
● Coordinate volunteers, support staff, vendors, and more to support promotional events,
● Perform outreach to press outlets, magazines, influencers and build strategic partnerships to grow brand notoriety.
● Monitor Communications Intern.
Administrative Assistant Skills and Qualifications:
● Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
● An analytical mind and ability to think criticallyAbility to work both independently and as part of a team.
● Familiar with MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, and capable of creating visually compelling presentations.
● Knowledge of email marketing software such as Constant Contact or a similar program.
● Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics.
● Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills and best practices.
● Proficient public speaking abilities are an asset.
Education and Experience Requirements:
● 2+ years experience in a communications or marketing role
● A high school diploma or equivalent education
● Knowledge of appropriate software including: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
● Valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance
Intern Specifics: OPJL offers ongoing unpaid internships designed to expose qualified applicants to Communications (marketing, events, and development work) and other aspects of the nonprofit industry. The internships are intended for those serious about pursuing their chosen path in communications, marketing, and/or the nonprofit field. Therefore, the acceptance process will be highly selective. Benefits of an internship at OPJL include a tremendous hands-on learning experience at a nonprofit social justice organization, exposure to a broad network, and the ability to network with a wide variety of individuals. In addition, this internship can be used to fulfill student service hours.
Location: OPJL is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, but remote work is the norm currently (during pandemic) and will be no problem for the future. Strong preference for someone based in Ohio, but open to applicants anywhere.
