Reports to: Director of Marketing & Communications
Pay Range: $88,000 - $96,000
Location: San Francisco, CA.
This is a hybrid position, and candidates must be able to work three days per week in our San Francisco office.

Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) - Rooted in the Mission and focused on San Francisco since 1973, MEDA’s mission is to strengthen low- and moderate-income Latino families by promoting economic equity and social justice through asset building and community development.
MEDA is advancing strategies to create asset-building opportunities for San Francisco’s Latino families and in the Mission District through: (1) our core, integrated Asset Building Programs in housing, financial capability, workforce development, and tax preparation; (2) serving as a backbone agency to advance educational achievement and family economic success through the Mission Promise Neighborhood 2-generation approach; (3) creating and preserving affordable housing and commercial real estate in the Mission District through Community Real Estate; (4) providing access to capital and business technical assistance through MEDA’s CDFI, Fondo Adelante; (5) Policy & Advocacy efforts that support our mission; and (6) Sharing the Model through providing technical assistance on successful MEDA programs to local and national partners.
Our direct service programs serve 17,000 individuals each year, and we work in collaboration with numerous community partners. We devote resources to research and evaluation, community organizing, and advocacy. In the process, MEDA is helping to develop best practices in the field, and shares its model across the state and country.
YOUR CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Community Communications Manager is a strong communicator, multimedia content producer, project manager, writer, relationship builder, and strategic thinker who is passionate about MEDA’s mission to support the community in the SF Mission District. This position is supported by a robust eight-person Development/Communications team and can work and learn from seasoned professionals in the nonprofit field. This position requires working in MEDA’s San Francisco office most of the time.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Community Communications Manager will lead or support on responsibilities that may include but are not limited to:
- As part of the Development and Communications Department's overall Marketing & Communications content marketing strategy, develop and deploy content that will further the engagement of: community members residing in MEDA-owned/managed properties; loan recipients of MEDA’s CDFI, Fondo Adelante; families of the Mission Promise Neighborhood community anti-poverty education initiative, for which MEDA is the backbone agency; asset building programs and services; and MEDA Policy & Advocacy team to activate community members to be decision-makers around issues that affect their lives.
- Analyze metrics of blogs, social media channel(s) and email blasts (including A/B splits for email blasts) to ensure audience content needs are being best met.
- Act as community manager for MEDA META pages (Facebook and Instagram) of 35,000 followers, engaging community members by answering Messenger inquiries, running targeted ads, and running/assisting on Facebook Live information sessions.
- Develop and explore other client-forward social media marketing strategies on other platforms, including Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, etc.
- Assist the Director of Marketing & Communications in managing media inquiries.
- Support staff, as needed, in creating community member fliers and other design projects required by the Development team.
- Support internal communications, including the coordination of MEDA’s monthly internal newsletter.
- Translate English content on websites and social media posts to Spanish, as needed.
- Make creative, written content and send out email blasts to community members.
- Conduct client success story interviews and write bilingual blogs, with clear calls-to-action.
- Proofread team members’ work, as needed.
- Potential to learn stakeholder (partners/funders/elected officials) communications over time.
- Draft crisis communications when required.
- Attend and participate in community events.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
YOUR KEYS TO SUCCESS
To perform successfully in this role, you will need to leverage these key qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field: English, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, etc.
- Minimum two years in a communications or journalism role.
- Must speak and write fluent Spanish.
- Must be able to write persuasively in Spanish and English (blogs; social media posts; email blasts, etc.)
- Must have a social media background/interest, especially as a community manager; with a solid understanding of culturally relevant trends.
- Multimedia production experience preferred (i.e., photography, video, audio recording for podcasting, etc.)
- Graphic design software skills preferred (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge, Canva)
- WordPress skills a plus
- Email software skills a plus
- Nonprofit experience a plus
