Hunger Solutions New York, Inc., founded in 1985 and based in Albany, is a statewide nonprofit organization that strives to alleviate hunger in New York by promoting awareness of hunger, public policies that contribute to ending hunger, and participation in federal nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP, WIC, School Meals, the Summer Food Service Program, Summer-EBT, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Summary of Position
The Graphic Design Specialist is a member of the communications team and reports to the Creative Manager. This position serves the organization in developing and ensuring consistency in branding, images, and messaging across all communication channels, and assists with the design and publishing of print and digital materials.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the design, production, and updating of visual materials for a variety of platforms, including marketing materials, outreach resources, web pages, internal communications, e-newsletters and campaigns, social media, presentations, and events.
  • Typesetting reports, flyers, and other documents
  • Image editing/resizing for website and social media channels
  • Following existing brand standards and processes to produce consistent and high-quality results
  • Updating WordPress website as necessary
  • Contributing to monthly and other necessary reports
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications
The position necessitates a basic understanding of the role of federal nutrition programs in alleviating hunger, and the professionalism required to promote the programs to the satisfaction of our government and private funders. It is imperative that the candidate be skilled and accurate, able to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, work with colleagues with ease, focus on details, and strive for excellence. A creative portfolio will be requested as part of the application process.

The Graphic Design Specialist should possess the following qualifications:

  • Commitment to Hunger Solutions New York’s mission
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field plus 3 years of professional experience, or Associate’s Degree plus equivalent experience
  • Expertise in Adobe Suite, including:

            InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

  • Demonstrated mastery of typographic skills
  • Video/motion graphic experience a plus
  • Strong design skills and demonstrated talent in conveying complex policy or technical information with clear messaging for a variety of different and diverse audiences
  • Proven task management skills, including the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and follow through to completion
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with:

           Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, WordPress, Social Media Channels

Preference is given to candidates with non-profit or human services experience. All candidates must reside in New York State. This position is hybrid, but candidates must be able to work onsite in Albany, NY as needed.

Compensation & Benefits
Hunger Solutions New York is committed to its employees and provides a competitive compensation package. Salary will be commensurate with experience, but is expected to be $50,000–$55,000. Hunger Solutions New York offers fully paid benefit premiums, including health, dental, life, short- and long-term disability, and a retirement plan that offers a 5% match (different vesting periods apply to each benefit and will be discussed as part of the interview process). A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) may be available depending upon the health insurance package chosen. Additionally, Hunger Solutions New York offers a generous amount of holiday and paid time off to each employee.
