WHAT YOU’LL DO:

DES is seeking a seasoned leader to fuel growth in our core markets with a special focus on healthcare and education. In this strategic role your proven business development expertise, strong industry connections, and creative thinking will be crucial in expanding our presence. You will also manage the Interiors team focusing on staffing, performance management, and promoting growth through supportive and authentic leadership.

Strategically, you will play a crucial role in expanding our industry presence and book of business. The role entails a multifaceted approach encompassing business development, team management and development along with project management. This role involves dedicating approximately 50% of time and effort towards driving business development initiatives, identifying growth opportunities, and fostering strategic partnerships.

Approximately 25% will be day to day team management to include staffing assignments, recruitment, mentoring and development, training and professional growth. The remaining 25% will be allocated to project work involving the planning, execution and delivery of projects vital to the organization’s objectives.

  • Build and execute a business development plan to meet the goals of the business
  • Forge strategic partnerships and alliances to garner new business opportunities ahead of competitors
  • Enhance and cultivate relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants to generate new business opportunities
  • Align shared values and objectives with prospective clients that drive new opportunities
  • Assume the leadership role in managing the project pursuit lifecycle
  • Actively participate in conferences and focused industry events to enhance, establish, and build new relationships while strengthening our presence in the market
  • Showcase DES’s expertise and thought leadership through presentations and panel discussions
  • Procure and manage new contracts and project revenue goals annually
  • Works with the Creative Director for creation and execution of Interiors department goals and support of business plan
  • Day to day team management of the Interiors team to include staffing, project pursuits, performance management etc.
  • Lead internal teams with authenticity to guide, mentor, and nurture their professional development
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director to support staff’s professional development goals by work assignment and aptitude
  • Ensure significant talent in design, design development and project leadership for large-scale interior design projects
  • Commitment to design excellence, innovation, and personalized client services, including relationship management, problem-solving, decision-making, and collaboration
  • Meet or exceed project timelines and budgets setting a standard of accountability and efficiency that contributes to the success and delivery of the project
  • Oversee and manage aspects of the project including cross collaboration with internal disciplines within DES: architecture, landscape architecture, structural, civil, sustainability and visual communications
Requirements:
  • Must be professional Interior Designer and have passed the NCIDQ exam or be a registered Architect with current license required
  • 15 years + of relevant work experience in the SF Bay Area A/E/C Industry
  • Experience in the SF Bay Area Healthcare and/or Education market sector is a must
  • Knowledge of CA building codes & ADA preferred
  • LEED Accreditation preferred
  • Revit proficiency preferred
  • Proficiency in the basic technical skills of the following computer skills:

- MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project

- Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software required

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities/projects and develop business relationships
  • Mentor with authenticity for the professional growth of the team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, business acumen, and presentation skills
  • Proven track record of building and sustaining strong client relationships
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Hybrid work environment, work onsite a few days per week in either the Redwood City or San Francisco office

The typical pay range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 in total compensation. Compensation depends on the individual's skills, experience, education, and geographic location.
