Reporting through the design systems team, and collaborating with the broader product design and product management orgs, the Staff UX Writer will play a key role in crafting clear, concise, and user-centered copy that enhances the usability and accessibility of our digital products. They will work across all product teams, providing guidance on voice and tone, ensuring consistency in copy across user interfaces, and creating content that supports seamless user interactions. Acting as a mentor and consultant to product designers, product managers, and engineers, the UX Writer will have a laser-focus on improving clarity, reducing friction, and drive business impact.

What you'll be doing:
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships to connect product management, clinical, and product design with the goal of aligning around a copy approval process
  • Write microcopy for UI elements such as buttons, tooltips, error messages, and form field descriptions
  • Collaborate with product designers on user flows and wireframes, ensuring copy enhances the overall user experience
  • Create and maintain content guidelines, including voice and tone standards, across all products
  • Support accessibility efforts by ensuring all product copy meets WCAG standards and is inclusive for all users
  • Participate in cross-functional reviews, providing copy feedback to ensure consistency across products and platforms
  • Lead content audits to identify areas for improvement and maintain a high standard of quality in all user-facing content
  • Act as an advisor on content strategy for various product initiatives, ensuring alignment with user needs and business goals
  • Establish guidelines & voice/tone documentation
  • Establish a library of reusable bits of content for messaging (errors, notifications, success, empty states, etc.)
What success looks like in this role:

The primary measure of success in this role will be the impact on key business metrics, including increased user engagement, improved conversion rates, and reduced support costs. A successful Staff UX Writer will leverage strategic, user-centered copy to drive business outcomes:

  • Driving business impact: Through clear and compelling communication, the UX Writer will aim to boost user engagement by 10-30% by improving onboarding, enhancing feature clarity, and increasing task completion. Optimized calls-to-action and streamlined flows should yield a 15-50% increase in conversion rates, while clearer product communication can reduce support tickets by 10-30% and increase self-service resolutions by 15-40%.
  • Enhancing brand voice and differentiation: Establishing a consistent and distinctive voice across the product strengthens brand identity and elevates brand perception.
  • Streamlining the user journey: Improving clarity and reducing friction across user flows will enhance the System Usability Scale (SUS) and overall design quality.
  • Fostering collaboration and becoming a trusted resource: Building strong relationships with product designers, product managers, and brand/marketing peers, becoming a natural go-to for content guidance and strategy.
What we expect from you:
  • Impact-driven and focused on KPIs: You approach your work with a results-oriented mindset, always considering how copy can drive key metrics and enhance user engagement. You set measurable goals, track the effectiveness of your writing, and adjust based on data to ensure maximum impact.
  • Thorough knowledge — and strong opinions — of the English language (grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage) and the ability to consider how the copy might translate to other languages.
  • Scrabble-shattering levels of vocabulary — You have a mental library of words and know exactly how to wield them. Whether it's finding the perfect word for a piece of microcopy or making complex ideas digestible, your command of language elevates every interaction.
  • Loads of experience interpreting brand and copy standards (including style, voice and tone) into workable copy within a product
  • Uncanny ability to influence and inspire others to buy-into and happily utilize copy standards
  • Exceptional communication skills, both async and via live conversations — including the ability to read the room, adapt your tone and pacing based on the audience, and know when to simplify complex ideas or elevate discussions with compelling language.
  • Passionate about simple, clear, and impactful communication – you ruthlessly refine copy, trimming it down to the fewest words possible without sacrificing meaning, context, or user understanding.
  • Strong discipline and sound decision-making skills — you are able to prioritize effectively, make confident choices under pressure, and maintain focus on long-term goals while balancing immediate project needs. You know when to act decisively and when to gather more input, ensuring thoughtful and timely outcomes.
  • Self-driven in planning, structuring, and executing your work – you take ownership of your tasks from start to finish, delivering high-quality results without needing close supervision or guidance. You proactively manage your time and resources to meet expectations. This is not a generic expectation, we truly need a mad scientist that can master plan & make progress on multiple work streams at the same time.
  • Proficiencies include working within Figma, Google Docs, Jira/Confluence — while it's not a deal breaker to lack wizard-level mastery of these apps, high-levels of proficiency in tech and software is required. Experience in Webflow scores major points.
  • Advanced levels in understanding accessibility and inclusive design principles

The target base salary range for this position is $194,080 - $242,600, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually using Radford Global Compensation Database at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
