Senior Designer 4; Newport News, VA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignment.
• Develop concept designs using CAD tools (inventor, NX);
• Develop component manufacturing drawings;
• Perform arrangement impact studies using Ship Product Model;
• Update various databases as required for affected changes;
• Develop changes to AWE tech manual instructions when necessary;
• Work hand-in-hand with Engineers to evaluate designs for fit, form, and function;
• Conduct ship-checks to aid in Design. Ship checks may include traversing vertical ladders over multiple decks, working at significant heights, and entering tight spaces;
• Work with deck-plate construction personnel to solicit and evaluate manufacturing design changes;
• Monitor junior designers .
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Associate's Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 6 years related experience
Critical Skills in: Inventor, Teamcenter, NX experience, and manufacturing drawing development.
EDUCATION:
Associates Degree is required.
Equivalency: Associate's Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate's degree.
HOURS:
5/40 workweek. 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
