Our staff have the opportunity to grow their professional skills and work collaboratively with colleagues they admire and respect.About the roleThis is an integral role in the Museum's Graphic Designer Department, responsible for conceptualizing and designing innovative and compelling design for the Museum's exhibitions, print, digital, wayfinding, signage, and publications, and programs while maintaining and exploring the museum's visual language in close collaboration with the other members of the design team.Working in a highly collaborative studio setting, this role supports the Graphic Design team and works on projects in all stages of the design process to support overall attendance and revenue goals, improve the visitors experience, and expand upon the Museum's design language across all visitor touch points.The Graphic Design team is part of the Museum's The Engagement division, a multi-faceted team-including staff in digital communications, graphic design, marketing, merchandising, public relations, and visitor experience-that is responsible for leading the institution's audience engagement strategy with a focus on digital initiatives.ResponsibilitiesEvolve and expand the Museum's visual identity and promotional strategy in collaboration with the Senior Graphic Designer and Director of Graphic DesignDesign and conceptualize bespoke graphic identities for 3 to 5 exhibitions per year, working closely with curators and executive level staff, and managing all aspects of production and installation.Work closely with the Design and Marketing teams in developing creative for campaigns to support Museum-wide marketing and communications goals.Works closely with Director of Graphic Design to steward the presentation of Brooklyn Museum's brand across all channels.Ensure projects are well-executed according to the design vision by preparing files, defining specifications, managing timeline and production of assigned projects with various vendors.Articulate design ideas to internal shop teams and cultivate collaborative relationships on projects.Works cross-functionally and collaborates with key partners in internal and external teams as well as external agencies and freelancers. Creates presentations and other review materials as needed.Take responsibility to meet deadlines and be punctual.Oversee and mentor junior graphic designers and interns as needed.Expedites and troubleshoots all project-related issues needing immediate attention.Other duties as assignedQualifications BFA or MFA in graphic design or related field and 3-5 years of professional work experience in graphic design or a related fieldAdvanced skill set in Adobe Creative SuiteStrong understanding of brand systemsDynamic use of typography, grids, layout, color, shape, and imagery in both 2D and 3DFamiliarity with production methods such as: vinyl graphic applications(both cut lettering and large-scale murals), silk-screening, banners, laser cuttingAbility to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentAttention to detail while being a creative thinker and having the ability to work both within and without guidelinesAbility to work independently and as part of a team, to take direction, to receive feedback, and to execute accordinglyAbility to adapt to ever-changing project types and requirementsBeing up to date on current trends in design, art, culture, and technologyFantastic organizational skills are a mustPassion for art a plusReports to: Director of Graphic DesignPosition type: Full-timeSalary: $72,134.40Union status: Union-UAW Local 2110FLSA status: NonexemptSchedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, with some evening and weekend hours, as well as remote work, as necessaryIf you have questions about our online application system, get in touch with us at job.application.questions@brooklynmuseum.org.
