Job Description
Structural Designer Job Summary:
Completes Design Work Requests and Design Change Notices for variants of and changes to existing company product lines in various industries such as Telecommunication, Transportation, and Oil & Gas. The modeling and drawing work is completed in SolidWorks and can be as simple as resizing a couple members to as complex as creating an entirely new 100 + part assembly. A high degree of SolidWorks proficiency is required to ensure the work is done quickly, correctly, and according to company drafting and design standards. The designer should be able to think critically to ask good questions that improve the company standard and designs while generally working independently on their given tasks. Must have structural design/detailer experience with sheet metal design experience as a plus.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Pulls part numbers as needed and creates design input folders for top level assemblies to document design inputs.
- Creates Sales drawings for customer feedback on preliminary project concepts.
- Creates Quote drawings/BOM for Estimating purposes of an agreed concept.
- Creates Fabrication drawings for every non-outsourced part within a newly purchased assembly.
- Completes redline revisions as requested by internal feedback.
- Seek feedback from other departments for new/special designs to ensure best sourcing and manufacturing.
- May occasionally meet with customers to obtain or discuss design details and offer creative solutions.
Education:
· High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum)
· Vocational/ College (preferred)
Experience:
· 5+ years drafting and design using Solidworks
· 2+ years fabrication/ shop utilizing trade tools (preferred but not mandatory)
· 2+ years working knowledge of tolerances and dimensioning. (preferred but not mandatory)
Physical Demands:
· Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
· Must be able to lift 20lbs. when out in the shop.
· Ability to use standard tape measure or other measuring tools.
