Summary
Designs Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) using established layout and routing techniques by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create printed circuit board (PCB) design solutions for embedded computer systems, where high component density, high pin count device, and high layer count designs are the norm
- In conjunction with hardware design engineering and external vendors, generates, and uses design guidelines and design rules for implementation of printed circuit board design structures
- Performs design rule checks (DRC) on the printed circuit board designs
- Generates, verifies and validates Gerber data of PCB design
- Prepare manufacturing package of the printed circuit board designs for use in fabrication and assembly of the PCB as required by established procedures
- Create, verify and validate symbols representing the physical characteristics of electrical and mechanical components to be assembled PCB
- Perform validation of printed circuit board solder samples and prototypes
- Responsible for creation and maintenance of Printed Circuit Board related libraries
- Perform schematic symbol creation and schematic entry as directed by Engineering Management
- Make modifications to product lines as directed by Engineering Management
- Confer with engineering staff to resolve design details or problems
- Maintain technical relationships with PCB fabrication vendors, and resolves technical issues during PCB fabrication
- Develops a routing strategy focused on controlling impedance and crosstalk
- Uses simulation tools to test routing strategy pre-layout
- Reviews best-in-class materials to ensure the PCB stack up is optimized for signal and power requirements
- Coordinates with the manufacturer to ensure the end design meets both its functionality and manufacturability requirements.
- Coordinates closely with the product development engineering team to ensure all requirements are addressed.

Education and Experience
- Associates degree plus 3+ years of experience in electronic CAD design
or
- 6+ years of experience in electronic CAD design
- Proficiency with respect to IPC standards for printed circuit board design, and related design rule check operations
- Primary Proficiency (required) with Cadence® Design Systems suite Allegro® and OrCad®.
- Secondary Proficiency (desired) Eagle, Altium, Proteus, KiCad, DesignSpark, Protel, Cadstar, Mentor Graphics, PADS Power PCB tools
- Signal integrity analysis for signal quality, crosstalk and timing.
- Power integrity analysis for DC Drop, decoupling and noise.
- Experience with switching regulator layout and routing, techniques for Giga-Hertz range high speed digital interfaces, and design for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
