Job Description
Position Summary:
The Interior Designer will be responsible for managing the interior design and FFE processes for various renovation and new development projects. This detail-oriented professional will work with a multi-disciplinary team of architects, interior designers, brand strategists, graphic/ environment designers, and other specialist consultants to develop and execute a well-coordinated design.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Collaborate with Discovery Senior Living team to team to determine design preferences, purpose and function of spaces, branding, budget, and other factors, which affect the design of multi-family senior living environments.
- Manage quality and consistency of design outcomes
- Liaison between contractor, design team, ownership, operations, and capital partners
- Ensure a thoughtful and efficient turnover of the completed project to operations.
- Direct and mentor other designers on the team.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Develop design concepts that meet the project’s needs and objectives
- Lead the design and procurement for renovation projects. Provide direct coordination with vendors and/or subcontractors for the fabrication and installation of millwork, fixtures, accessories, draperies, materials and colors, artwork, furniture, and related items
- Collaborate on new design ideas and research design trends with team, provide direction to external architects, designers, branding, art, marketing, and graphic design consultants
- Develop space plan which meets client’s goals and objectives, elevations, sketches, and architectural details that illustrate the design intent and use of materials
- Complete research and selection of products and systems, finishes and furniture
- Create plans, elevations and architectural details that illustrate the design intent and use of materials
- Review design documents to ensure accuracy and thoroughness.
- Prepare budget outlines and obtain costs to assist in project cost management. Continually monitor budget throughout the course of the project.
- Oversee Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) processes, including selection, procurement, and installation
- Confirm product specifications are suitable for proposed application and meet budget and schedule (lead times), recommend value engineering (VE) options

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited interior design or architecture program.
- Minimum 5-7 years of broad design experience with emphasis on multi-family and/or hospitality projects.
- Experience with upscale multi-family and hospitality projects; including residential units, hotels and restaurants that are in a mixed-use, urban setting.

- Proficiency in reading and interpreting Construction Documents (architectural, structural, mechanical, specifications, etc.)

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Able to analyze statistical data.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to work effectively under moderate or high stress levels due to work subject to time constraints, responsibility to deliver, and the need for rapid adaptation within a dynamic work environment.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Revit
- Proficient with Sketchup.
- High level of Adobe Creative Suite skills.

- Thorough knowledge of conceptual design and design development.
- Excellent design skills and thorough knowledge of project delivery process; space planning, construction documentation, construction administration, furniture, and specialty lighting specification.
- High level of organizational and self-management skills.
- Thorough knowledge of furnishings and finishes including product knowledge.
- Good at sketching.
- Good understanding of building systems, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural.
- Applies knowledge of codes and ADA/TAS standards to design and construction documents.
- Ability to manage a team with tactful leadership style which puts the value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external.
- Certificate or Registration of Interior Designer or certification through NCIDQ preferred. LEED AP accreditation preferred
- Professional membership and active participation in Industry Associations i.e., IIDA and ASID preferred
