SUMMARY

The primary function of the Mechanical Designer is to provide technical support and services and support to other groups within the engineering department. General areas of service and support include but not limited to mechanical design & drafting, system specification and production documentation. This role shall be responsible for the creation of low to complex design outputs such as P&ID, Fabrication, Assembly and General Arrangement drawings, Bill of Materials and other related documents as required by the System design execution. The successful candidate must be a motivated team player with a mechanical design background and ability to produce design drawings utilizing 3D modeling software. This role shall perform under the general oversite and guidance of the Engineering Manager.

Duties

  1. Develop detailed 3Dmodels, component part models, assemblies, fabrication drawings and machine detail drawings using Solidworks for GMP processing systems.
  2. Reviews, interprets, and provides feedback on customer specifications vacuum and leak testing systems.
  3. Visit completed project designs during the production phase and assess quality of design, collect design feedback from production personnel and determine how feedback can be used to improved future designs.
  4. Analyzes and understands various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate construction methods.
  5. Research components from direct verbal and written instructions. Provide multiple options that includes information on ability to meet specifications and impacts for cost and lead time. Identify and communicate with potential suppliers when determining components.
  6. Provides information for cost estimating.
  7. Responsible for understanding business flow / processes from order entry to shipping.
  8. Documents internal work instructions.
  9. Provide inputs and support the creation of system instruction manuals.
  10. Performs internal quality check of peer's work.
  11. Provides assistance and training for other Engineering department personnel as directed or requested.
  12. Collaborates with shop mechanic leads to establish best methods or practices for building of systems.
  13. In conjunction with the Agile teams develops and/or promotes technical solutions which support the business requirements within their area of expertise. They may be accountable for specific deliverables and profitability in relation to the development of a project, support or may lead the technical activity within their area of specialism.

Tasks require walking, sitting, bending, reaching, mobility, frequent lifting and pushing/pulling. Work requires computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, and data-entry), attention to detail and accuracy. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to balance multiple tasks and any stress associated with the duties and responsibilities of this position are essential requirements in the performance of this job.

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree (two-year college or technical school) required in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or related field. Two to four years mechanical engineering (piping and/or system design preferred), drafting or related field experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with industry standards, concepts, practices, and procedures. E.g., ASME, ANSI, NEMA etc.

Computer Skills

Fluency in all the following: SolidWorks 2015 or comparable 3D software, AutoCAD, Draftsight or comparable 2D software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Database, Adobe Products, business software such as SAP ERP or Systems Applications and Products and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
