Summary:
The Junior Interior Designer plays a crucial role in supporting the interior design process across multiple projects. Working under routine guidance, this position involves collaborating on various design stages, from programming, space planning, interior architecture, and FF&E to construction documentation and administration. The Junior Interior Designer will gain hands-on experience throughout the phases of design with a focus on supporting the project teams in design creation, preparing contract documents, creating presentation materials, and researching materials and finishes, all while adhering to firm standards and sustainability goals. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to pivot between tasks in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist throughout the interior design process under routine guidance, contributing to the team's success by adhering to firm and project goals, standards of excellence, and sustainability.
- Gain a foundational understanding of the architectural design process and the integration of interior design concepts.
- Collaborate on multiple projects concurrently, including programming, space planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Prepare contract documents, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, millwork design, furniture layouts, finish plans, and schedules, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Create presentation materials and models for client presentations, effectively communicating design ideas.
- Research manufacturers and contribute to selecting colors, finishes, materials, furniture, and lighting, with a focus on sustainability.
- Use creativity to perform tasks in an organized, timely, and consistent manner, ensuring high-quality work through self-checks for accuracy and compliance.
- Participate in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups, maintaining open communication with the team.
- Support project teams and studio activities, collaborating with partners and consultants as needed, while expressing curiosity and proactively asking questions about the design industry.
Skills & Abilities:
- Foundational knowledge in Building Information Modeling (BIM). Novice to intermediate proficiency using Revit preferred, functional AutoCAD experience required.
- Foundational knowledge in programming, interior site analysis, and planning.
- Experience with concept development, preliminary design studies, contract document preparation.
- Ability to conduct field observations and accurate measurements.
- Competence in specifying furniture and interior products.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite including presentation tools such as InDesign and Photoshop.
- Experience with architectural visualization software, Enscape experience preferred
- Understanding of Building Codes including ADA requirements.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture from an accredited school.
- Entry Level- 0-3 years of relevant experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on design tasks and presentations.
- Capacity to move around construction sites for field observations and measurements, including bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Visual acuity to work on detailed drawings and computer screens for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for model-making, material handling, and the use of design tools and software.
- Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 25 pounds may be required.
- Utilize protective gear as needed during site visits and fieldwork.
