The New York Post is seeking a tough, experienced and sharp-eyed journalist with exceptional news judgment to join the team as the Breaking News Editor (Mon-Fri, 9-5pm). This individual will be responsible for vetting, assigning, and editing breaking stories of importance, whether it's politics, criminal justice or any other major issue that affects and interests readers.
We're looking for someone with a proven track record of delivering fast-paced stories while adhering to the highest journalistic standards of sourcing and accuracy. The ideal candidate is someone who is able to thrive in a highly charged atmosphere while juggling multiple reporters and stories with in-the-moment deadlines.

Pay Range: 90,000 - 115,000

Responsibilities:
- Spot and vet viral and breaking news pieces across all areas: hard news, politics, local events, global affairs.
- Edit and publish accurate and well-written stories quickly, while keeping a close eye on major developments
- Lead daily news meetings and help map out the biggest news of the day, as well as brainstorm other story ideas
- Manage and direct reporters on different beats across the country through the entire publication process, from initial idea to final publication.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- At least 5 years of experience in a major metropolitan or national newsroom
- Experience leading a team of at least five reporters in a newsroom environment
- Strong news judgement and editing chops
- A voracious consumer of news in all areas
- Experience editing multiple stories a day and turning them around quickly for both print and digital audiences
- A fiercely competitive spirit and the ability to deliver quality stories told in The Post's unique voice
- Understanding of SEO, social media and video best practices and how to utilize those resources to optimize content and reach a wide audience a plus
