A Managing Editor creates content strategies and oversees their implementation processes. The managing editor's biggest responsibilities will include pitching, reporting, writing, editing, and processing stories while overseeing production of tile weekly print publication Main duties include managing a team of writers, editors and graphic designers, monitoring the results of various content campaigns and editing content pieces to ensure they follow tone and style guides.

Responsibilities

• Hiring and training new Editors
• Assign projects
• Ensuring editing team meets its deadlines
• Meeting with Project Managers, Creative Directors, Sales Leaders, Marketing Directors and other personnel to keep all team members updated on work progress
• Helping create a project calendar
• Supervising the content creation process from writing through editing and publishing
• Managing a team of freelancers
• Generating original story ideas to write and report
• Covering local stories that will appear on tile website and in print
• Working with designers to have stories laid out for the print publication
• Editing all stories for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style
• Helping managing freelancers
• Helping manage editorial interns

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher
• 2+ years of journalism experience at a media outlet
• Gapable of quickly turning around clean copy on tight deadlines
• Reliable transportation to cover local stories
• SLR camera, photography skills, and experience using WordPress and lnCopy a plus but not required
• Must live in or near East End
