The Opportunity:

Screen Rant’s editorial team is seeking an experienced and aspiring MTV (Movie and TV) Deputy Editor to oversee leadership of our Movie and TV vertical. The ideal candidate will manage a dedicated team, drive content strategy, and ensure that we remain at the forefront of the entertainment industry. The selected candidate will be expected to use their expertise to expand coverage, enhance article quality, increase traffic, and grow the site into a self-sustaining pillar within the entertainment sector. This role will play a crucial part in helping Screen Rant achieve its ambitious goals of becoming a leader among entertainment websites.


Responsibilities

Site Leadership:

  • Participate in both team and site leadership to maintain the editorial vision.
  • Liaise with in-house Valnet resource teams on progress, challenges, and operational needs.
  • Attend daily editorial pitch meetings when possible to provide feedback and ensure alignment with editorial objectives.
  • Lead weekly staff meetings to communicate progress on traffic goals, announce site-wide initiatives, and support the team.
  • Lead weekly model meetings with Valnet supervisors to assess staff capacity, track traffic goals, and discuss output initiatives.
  • Create and implement a long-term plan for sustained growth across the Movie and TV vertical.


Audit and Optimization:

  • Audit the site to assess strengths and identify areas for improvement.
  • Propose and implement effective solutions for meeting ambitious traffic and output targets.


Content Strategy & Planning:

  • Research and identify topics and content types that will drive traffic using Google Analytics and other data sources.
  • Expand our existing coverage by sourcing new stories, unique angles, and high-impact content ideas.
  • Maintain and optimize a robust catalog of Movie and TV articles, ensuring comprehensive coverage across all relevant topics.


Team Management & Development:

  • Build and lead a team of passionate writers and editors.
  • Liaise with HR and participate in talent acquisition, editor candidate sourcing, and interview processes.
  • Coordinate with the training team to maintain up-to-date systems for onboarding and developing editors.
  • Manage the internal development of writers and editors, providing feedback to ensure output and quality targets are met.
  • Oversee the editorial team’s adherence to Screen Rant’s publication standards and ensure contributions align with the site’s goals.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative environment that encourages team growth and engagement.


Required Skills

  • Relevant experience in senior editorial roles (Managing Editor, Deputy Editor, Editor-in-Chief) at digital publications specializing in Movies, TV, or entertainment content.
  • Ability to write and edit high-quality content.
  • A strong passion and deep knowledge of Movies and TV.
  • Proficiency in image editing and SEO best practices.
  • Experience using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to drive strategy and measure success.
  • Proven experience managing freelance writers and editors, with a track record of growing teams, expanding coverage, and driving traffic.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
