War on the Rocks is hiring: Membership Editor for Leading National Security Medi

War on the Rocks is looking for a detail-oriented membership editor who is committed to the clear communication of sophisticated ideas about international security. This is a full-time position that is ideal for someone who has a background in national security, broadly defined. Please note this is not a remote position. We have a hybrid schedule of three days in the office a week (T, W, Th). As such, we will only consider candidates who live in the Washington, DC metro area or who are willing to relocate there.

The Position

Our membership editors are responsible for creating and co-creating content (newsletters, podcasts, articles, and more) for the War on the Rocks membership community, which includes current and former military personnel, national security practitioners, government officials, scholars, industry, and more.

About the Publication

War on the Rocks is focused on growing and serving a community passionate about strategy, defense, and foreign affairs. It is the flagship publication of Metamorphic Media, a D.C.-based media and education company. Founded in 2013, War on the Rocks aims to improve the professional and public discourse on issues of strategic importance by featuring experienced and authoritative voices in articles, essays, and podcasts. Requirements

• Two years of editorial experience (not inclusive of internships). This does not mean you need to have been employed as an editor, but you should be able to demonstrate that a past position has involved serious wordsmithing
• Familiarity with defense and foreign policy issues, as demonstrated by a minimum of two years of professional experience (not inclusive of graduate education or internships)
• Exceptional and obsessive attention to detail and organization
• Proven track record of delivering against short-term deadlines
• Exceptional and elegant written English
• Patience and rigor
• Ability to work collegially with others, to include difficult personalities (not all authors are a walk in the park, sadly)
• Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team

Bonus

• Experience in the U.S. armed forces, the Department of Defense, or the Department of State
• MA or other advances degree in international relations, strategic studies, military science, or a related topic
